Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science is an institute located in Kolkata, West Bengal. Came into existence in 1876, it is one of the oldest research institutes. Further, it is the only institute that has earned Asia’s first and country’s only Nobel Prize in Science based on the work done.
Affiliated by the University Grants Commission UGC, the institute is actively conducting research work in physics, chemistry and chemical biology. IACS offers an Integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s program in Science (B.Sc -M.Sc), Integrated Master’s and Ph.D Program in Biological Science (Int. M.Sc-Ph.D) and Ph.D. program.Admission to UG-PG and Integrated M.Sc-Ph.D. is based on the entrance exam conducted by the institute. For UG-PG, candidates need to appear in the UG Pre-Interview Screening Test (UPST) while for Int. M.Sc -Ph.D. they have to take the Master’s Pre-Interview Screening Test (MPST) exam. The final selection depends upon the Interview round.
For admission into Ph.D., students are evaluated based on their academic record and score in UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/GATE/JEST or equivalent national level exam. However, the shortlisted candidates are further called for a written test and/or interview.
