The course curriculum is right from IIM Bangalore as they were our mentors during the early founding years. So it is at par with ABC and requires you and trains you to think in top most way possible. The student ratio for our batch is around 70 to 30. Which faculty to student ratio is very good. The professors are really well and highly educated and experienced. The timeline of exams and every lecture and the important academic session is followed to the T.

My career growth required MBA. The student-faculty ratio is 1:70. However, if required and approached by students, faculty goes out of the way and helps by giving extra time to the student. All the faculty members hold a Ph.D. and are constantly researching and publishing papers. There are 2 main exams with projects every 3 months to pass. If a student is consistently studying and revising, it is easy to pass.

All faculties have done Ph.D. from older IIMS and mostly follow the Harvard case study method. 3 terms in a year and not so difficult to pass if you are brilliant enough to clear the CAT.

Ques
Are the six newest IIMs a good option? (i.e., IIM Nagpur, Vizag, Amritsar, Sirmaur, Bodhgaya, Sambalpur)

● Top Answer By Ashmita Mukharjee on 29 Apr 22

Ans
It depends on your profile. If you are a general category student with good academic records - more than 85 percent throughout 10th, 12th, and graduation, then old IIMs will be better.  If you aren’t getting the old IIMs, you can consider new IIMs like IIM Nagpur, Sambalpur, Vizag, Amritsar, Sirmaur, and Bodhgaya. Being part of any recently established institute is a different experience altogether. You will get to set the culture on campus which your juniors will inherit. These baby IIMs have decent placements. You will get placement opportunities through campus drive if you have a good academic record. Here are the average CTC statistics for these IIMs. Institute  Average CTC  IIM Nagpur  INR 15.21 LPA IIM Vizag INR 15.06 LPA IIM Amritsar INR 14.63 LPA IIM Sirmaur  INR 12.74 LPA IIM Bodhgaya  INR 12.36 LPA IIM Sambalpur  INR 12.64 LPA If you are willing to work hard and want to take advantage of opportunities that come with newly established institutes, then you should join these new IIMs.

Ques
Which one out of IIM Nagpur and IIM Vizag is preferable?

● Top Answer By Gopi Krishna Goyal on 30 Jan 23

Ans
As a current student at IIM Vizag, you can vouch for the fact that the institute has outperformed many of the newer IIMs despite being relatively young. The placement report available on the official website speaks to the confidence that the industry has in the institute and its students, and this is reflected in the strong job offers received by graduates. But beyond just looking at placement reports, it is important for MBA students to have exposure to real-world business problems, and IIM Vizag provides this through classroom discussions, guest lectures, business conclaves, and corporate competitions. In addition to academic pursuits, life at IIM Vizag is enriched by a range of festivals, celebrations, competitions, and cultural and sports events. Nurtured by its parent institute IIM Bangalore and supported by a talented faculty, IIM Vizag offers a vibrant and fulfilling experience for students, and if you are fortunate enough to be selected for the program, you can look forward to living and studying in the beautiful city of Visakhapatnam.

Ques
What CAT percentile do I need for the IIM Visakhapatnam?

● Top Answer By Palash Mitra on 11 Feb 21

Ans
Though the CAT cut-offs vary every year, it is generally seen to have close proximity in consecutive years. Here are the data for 2020, along with sectional cut-offs, for every category. 2020 Cutoff: Category VARC (percentile) LRDI (percentile) QUANT (percentile) Overall (percentile) General 80 80 80 85 OBC-NCL 70 70 70 75 EWS 70 70 70 75 SC 50 50 50 55 ST 30 30 30 40 PWD 30 30 30 40 The cutoff depends on many parameters and not just only on the CAT score. For example, candidates from non-engineering backgrounds can have a lower cutoff score but still secure a seat due to the diversity point. Every year, the final selection phase gets completed tentatively by April and the candidates get emails regarding the information and further communication. After being selected, candidates have to reconfirm their choice within a fixed amount of time, and only then they are further communicated and invited for the following rounds.

Ques
How is IIM Visakhapatnam so far?

● Top Answer By Sonal Yadav on 11 Feb 21

Ans
According to recent reports, IIM Visakhapatnam is on an excellent pace of development in all means. Students of IIM Visakhapatnam are seen to excel in various corporate competitions like V-guard, KPMG, etc. There are notifications of students succeeding in competitions every now and then, and the credit goes to the faculty, their guidance and support. The table below gives a brief overview of the institute. Total Fees (PGP) 13.65 Lakhs Highest Salary Offered 27 LPA Median Salary Offered 12 LPA Cut-off (CAT) 92 percentile Faculties: The professors and lecturers are considered to be among the best in the country. Some of their lessons seem to be worth, if not more, that is spent for the degree. Each faculty has a different way of teaching, and something interesting and exciting comes up from everyone. The professors encourage free-minded opinions from students. Placements: The placement report of IIM Visakhapatnam is published on the official website of the institute. According to the recent statistics, the placement of IIM Visakhapatnam is quite decent and satisfying. IIM Visakhapatnam is known for providing genuine placement reports. They don’t add expenses like travel, etc to the CTC, which is the case in some other institutes. So, it can be considered 100% authentic. The institute has seen the best recruiters visiting the campus for placement. Location and facilities: Vizag is a beautiful city. The beachside hostel of the institute offers a heavenly view every morning and evening. There is some provision of sports for students, but not too good due to lack of infrastructure. It is expected that this will be sorted in the permanent campus. Facilities like free gym membership in one of the best gyms in the city (Talwalkars) is provided by IIM. Overall, it is a definite verdict that IIM Visakhapatnam has a lot to offer to its students, including curriculum, activities, and placement.

Ques
How did IIM Visakhapatnam do better at placements than some of the second generation IIMs?

● Top Answer By Jatin Kumar on 15 Feb 21

Ans
IIM Visakhapatnam had a lot of help from IIM Bangalore for placements in the first few batches. A pool summer placement process was organized at Bangalore for the first three batches. This resulted in students interning at companies like Cloudtail and Directi. If you are lucky, you will find colleagues from colleges like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, XLRI, and FMS. The internship is a great opportunity for you and it will pose a strong point in job interviews. Moreover, my advice to you would be to network as much as possible. You will probably earn a 6 figure monthly stipend during the summer internship. Eventually, as students began to perform well and some of them at par with the top three IIMS (ABC), PPOs began loyally recruiting students from the college. These job profiles are the same as those offered at IIM Bangalore. An example of this would be that of Bosch. It offers a Junior Manager’s program available only to premier campuses like IIM Bangalore, IIFT Delhi, etc. as seen on LinkedIn. It even has an international visit to Germany included. Another major reason would be that this industry prefers students who have previously done summer internships. This PPO percentage was higher for the first two batches from IIM Visakhapatnam since most of the students were taught by IIM Bangalore professors.  Here are some other statistics for placements at IIM Visakhapatnam: Many IIM V students are at the consultant level at the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The batch size of the first two years was only 50. Since most of the students were taught by IIM B faculty, they have more knowledge and experience. 18% of the students secured a PPO here, which is higher than any other second-generation IIM. All these factors combined above have now ensured that IIM Visakhapatnam does better in placements than any other second-generation IIM. Currently, the highest CTC stands at INR 27 LPA and a minimum at INR 10 LPA. Companies like Yes Bank, Amul, and Crompton Greaves regularly visit the institute for placements.

Ques
Should I join TCS or IIM Visakhapatnam?

● Top Answer By Uma Kashyap on 11 Feb 21

Ans
Considering TCS being an IT company providing employment and opportunities to learn and IIM Visakhapatnam a considerable new IIM, here are a few pros and cons regarding both the decisions. TCS: Being in TCS, you will be surrounded by fast-paced engineering graduates, working in IT. Usually, candidates working in TCS get enough (sometimes a lot of) time for preparation of CAT, GMAT, etc. This sort of preparation is even enough for getting a seat in old IIMs. Adding to the advantage, the work experience you will have would help you score even better than fresh academics. IIM Visakhapatnam: On the other hand, joining IIM Visakhapatnam has a different set of advantages and disadvantages. Being a new IIM, the faculty and infrastructure are being established with time. In a new IIM, you will get the chance to learn a lot from the development of new committees and clubs, which proves to be quite important later. The mentoring institute, i.e. IIM Bangalore brings an excellent set of faculties and industry experts for a top-level coaching and management education. But, the placement here is the main concern. Being a new IIM, the institute cannot even compete with top private B-Schools in India, which is a serious disadvantage. The government of Andhra Pradesh is promoting a lot of Startups to make good prospects. A start-up village is set up in Vizag. Overall, the above factors give a brief overview of the scenarios in both choices. The final decision is yours, whether to join the IT industry, get prepared, and crack CAT, or take up IIM Visakhapatnam and get a dive into the unexplored opportunities.

Ques
Which is a better choice among IMI New Delhi, IIM-N and IIM-V? Why?

● Top Answer By Mohan Potdar on 14 Mar 23

Ans
As an MBA aspirant, you should check the recent placements of IMI New Delhi, IIM-N, and IIM-V, faculty quality, student welfare avenues, and infrastructure to compare and evaluate different institutes. It's important to focus on median placement figures and adjust for batch size.  You must look into the opportunities available for student involvement and well-being, such as clubs, societies, sports, cultural events, and corporate competitions. Check the corporate competition section of the school's website to see which companies participate, the positions secured by students, and the number of winners. Good performance in corporate competitions can indicate peer quality and highlight the institute among recruiters. While the brand IIM tag may benefit baby IIMs, established institutes may have better locations, student activities, and industry and alumni connections.

Ques
Which is better among SP Jain, IIM Kozhikode, and IIM Visakhapatnam?

● Top Answer By Yash Chandra on 13 Feb 23

Ans
Both SP Jain and IIM Kozhikode are considered to be reputable management institutes in India, and they have their own unique features and advantages. SP Jain has a fixed domain system where students have to choose a specific domain like finance or marketing in the beginning, and they cannot change it later. On the other hand, IIM Kozhikode has a flexible curriculum where students take a common first-year curriculum and then choose relevant domain-specific subjects in the second year. This allows students to explore different areas of management before committing to a specific domain. IIM Kozhikode has the advantage of the IIM brand name, which is considered to be one of the most prestigious in India. However, SP Jain has a more diverse student body as there is no reservation policy and the average placement package is higher than IIM Kozhikode. IIM Vishakhapatnam, while being a newer IIM, is considered to be behind both SP Jain and IIM Kozhikode in terms of reputation and placements. Ultimately, the decision of which institute to choose depends on the individual student's preferences and career goals.
