Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University (SRMU), Lucknow offers a full-time and part-time Ph.D. program in various specializations for a duration of a minimum of 3 years. The applicant must hold a Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body. The selection of candidates is based on an entrance test conducted by the varsity followed by a personal interview.

SRMU Ph.D Eligibility Criteria

A candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D. program of the Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University (SRMU) shall fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

• Master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale
• Shall possess an M.Phil. Degree or equivalent.
• Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. Coursework in the University with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent but the approval of viva voce is pending shall be eligible to apply.
• A relaxation of 5% of marks will be given to the reserved category as per the guidelines of SMRU.

SRMU Ph.D Admission Criteria

The admission to the Ph.D. program of the SMRU, Lucknow will be based on the written examination, namely “Research Aptitude Test” (RAT), followed by the interview by Faculty Research Degree Committee (FRDC).

• The applicants who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/teacher fellowship holder or have passed the M.Phil program may be exempted from the screening written examination ‘RAT’ and will be directly called for the interview by the FRDC.
• All the eligible Ph.D. aspirants will be called to appear in Research Aptitude Test (RAT) on the notified date and time.
• During the interview by the FRDC, the Ph.D. aspirant should give a presentation on his/her research proposal

Candidates seeking admission to Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University should register online through the official university website.

• Register yourself with the email address and phone number.
• After completion of the registration process, a verification email will be sent to candidates’ e-mail ID.
• Log in using the user ID and password. Fill in the application form with all the mandatory information.

SRMU Ph.D RAT Entrance Exam 

The syllabus of the RAT Entrance Test consists of 50% of research aptitude, reasoning, English proficiency and 50% is subject-specific. The qualifying marks for the PhD entrance test (RAT) are at least 50%.

The Ph.D. program offered at SRMU, Lucknow is in the field of Engineering, Biotechnology, Management Studies, and Media studies. Tabulated below are the details of the specializations offered: 

Course Duration

The minimum time after which the Ph.D. student shall be allowed for the submission of the thesis will be three years from the date of Ph.D. registration, which can be extended up to a maximum of six years.

The women candidates and Persons with Disability (more than 40% disability) may be allowed a relaxation of two years in the maximum duration.

Prescribed Coursework

The Ph.D. program of the SMRU, Lucknow will consist of

• Thesis Submission
• The credit assigned to the Ph.D. course work shall be a minimum of 06 credits and a maximum of 12 credits in conformity with the credit hour instructional requirement and shall specify the content, instructional, and assessment methods

The course structure for 12 credits Pre-Ph.D. course shall be as follows: 

The Ph.D. scholar has to obtain a minimum of 55% of marks or a C Grade on the UGC 7-point scale to be eligible to undertake the research work and submit the Synopsis of the proposed Ph.D. research work.

Award of Degree: Candidates will be awarded a Ph.D. degree if they successfully complete the core courses, electives, viva-voce, dissertation, thesis submission, etc.

SRMU Ph.D. Research Assistantship

Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University, Lucknow provides research assistantship to the Ph.D. student which is funded by various government and non-government organizations. However, a Ph.D. student has to fulfill the eligibility criteria and has to give a minimum number of hours during the course of their program. Ph.D. Scholars will also be awarded fixed stipends of INR 15,000 after approval of the synopsis for the period of 2 years.
