Calcutta University M.Tech admission 2023 is ongoing. The university closed application process on May 29, 2023. Admission will be granted on the basis of GATE scores followed by a personal interview conducted by the university. Calcutta University M.Tech Key Highlights

Calcutta University is approved by UGC and accredited by NAAC with the grade “A”.
The duration of the M.Tech depends on the program. There are 2 different M.Tech programs of 2 years and 3 years respectively.
M.Tech Program in the VLSI Design of Calcutta University Department have great national academic Collaborations with ISRO, VSSC, Space Physics Laboratory, Space Application Centre and IIT, Kharagpur.

Calcutta University M.Tech Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible for MTech admission at Calcutta University, candidates must have passed B.Tech./Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline with minimum marks from a recognized University. Students of Final year/semester may also apply for 2 Year M.Tech.

Calcutta University M.Tech Admission Criteria

For admission to M.Tech in Computer Science, Candidates have to apply for an Entrance Test followed by an Interview. GATE score is mandatory except CU students.
For admission into the M.Tech program at CU, CU candidates are directly eligible for admission while Non-CU candidates have to appear in the Admission Test. Students must note that in case of M.Tech in Pharmaceuticals & Fine Chemical Technology, a good GPAT score will be considered in place of GATE.

Calcutta University M.Tech Course Details

Calcutta University offers two types of M.Tech degree courses, Full time and Part time.

For full-time M.Tech, candidates will be selected on the basis of an entrance exam conducted by the respective departments of the university followed by an interview.
For part-time M.Tech, candidates will be selected on the basis of the entrance test marks (50%) + interview (50%) including additional weightage of the in-service candidate (in-service candidate can get maximum 20 marks out of 50 interview marks).

How to apply for Calcutta University M.Tech?

Candidates can apply to this college through online and offline mode. Mentioned below are the details regarding the same:

Application Process

Register online on the official website.
Visit any of the State Bank branches on this list and get a PIN and Information Booklet. Every discipline has a different Pin.
Visit the Official Website
Click on “New Users”.
Choose the desired course you want to apply for.
Enter the PIN and other details and click on “Submit”.
The online registration form will appear.
Fill in the required details.
Choice for M.Tech has to be filled.
Enter a secure password, click on “Confirm Password” and remember it for future login.
Click on “I accept” at the bottom of the page after reading the declaration.
Click on the “Submit Registration Details” tab and note the registration number for future use.
A registration window will open onscreen.
Enter the registration number, user ID and Password.
Click on the “Edit Registration Details” if any changes have to be made, else click on “Confirm Registration Details”.
Take the print out of the form and attach self-attested copies of all the documents that are required.
Submit it in the Help Centres to get the Acknowledgement Slip.
Students applying for M. Tech will get the Acknowledgement Slip cum Hall Ticket.

Calcutta University Application Fee

The Application Fee for the M.Tech Program in the Calcutta University is Rs. 200 for the general Candidates and Rs. 100 for the reserved candidates.
The Fee payment can be done in online mode though the Net Banking or through the ATM credit card/ Debit Card.
There is also an offline option available for the candidates. They can deposit cash at any State Bank branch. This can be done by filling in the details and submitting it. Candidates should get the application form after following the whole process. This will complete the registration process. In the case of cash payment, candidates have to send a copy of the e-receipt along with the printed application form to the University’s address.

In the Jute and Fiber Technology and Polymer Science and technology sector, the placement of the Calcutta University is 100%. For other streams, it is about 75% and in optics and optoelectronics, it is about 5% as it is research-based engineering.

For the M.Tech Program, the Ramcharan Mitra Scholarship is offered in the field of Radio-physics & Electronics, Computer Science, Chemical Technology, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science Applied Physics (in Electrical Engineering) Instrumentation Engineering, Optics and Optoelectronics.

Between Calcutta University and Presidency University for a PG, you should opt for Presidency University. Having studied in Calcutta University, I suggest you go for Presidency instead. Calcutta University is known to provide low marks to students. The teachers are part of the board or question setter which doesn't give good marks and a student has to study under them. Apart from this, there are certain colleges that, to improve their grades, give good marks to the students. Both of these cases are not good. Along with this, the marks get worse as the answer sheets are not checked by the college faculty and are instead checked by someone else. The Presidency won over these things. A student scores good marks in Presidency. The teachers are not that strict and they only check the answers sheets. As it's only the college teachers who do the questions and answers work in the exam, once getting familiar with them will help a student score well. Therefore, it's better to opt for Presidency University. Due to its better faculty, facilities and overall experience.

One of my friends was a student of the IEM thus, he had his reasons to make a choice among all the given options which might help you choose a college for yourself. Instead of enrolling for any college under WBJEE, you can try to go for IITs. If you have no luck there, then you should opt for government colleges such as CU, JU, and KGEC. Talking about IEM, you should know IEM provides a good opportunity for the students with all the favorable benefits. Apart from this, Heritage Institute of Technology is not a good choice as the crowd of students doesn’t have any standards. Most of them are enrolled by the management quota. You may also go to other colleges like Techno Main Saltlake otherwise, you can also choose GCETT Serampore, near Kolkata, as it is also a good college.

I have friends who completed their B.Com from Calcutta University and Burdwan University and according to them, it's difficult to get a BCom degree from any of these two universities. Because it is honors, and you must also manage a large syllabus. As far as the curriculum is concerned, Calcutta University and Burdwan University are identical. Even Burdwan University asks the same questions again and over. You will have to put in extra effort to do well in academics at both Burdwan University and Calcutta University. However, Calcutta University has a locational advantage. You will have better access to coaching. Calcutta University is also more recognized. I will suggest that you take all these factors into consideration, and choose an institute according to your convenience.
