Apart from the regular UG, PG and Doctoral programs Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) also offers MA & MSW programs in Distance Education mode. Rabindra Bharati University UG Admission 2023: BA (Hons.), BFA, B.L.I.Sc & B.Ed
The university offers BA (Hons.), BFA, B.Li.Sc & B.Ed programs in various disciplines under the faculties of Arts, Fine Arts and Visual Arts. The basic eligibility for BA & BFA is a pass in 10+2 with relevant subjects. For B.Li.Sc and B.Ed courses, a Graduation degree is a must.
Admission is completely based on the marks in the qualifying examination. RBU releases the course-wise provisional merit lists for the shortlisted candidates.
Merit List Preparation: For B.A (Hons.) in Rabindra Sangeet, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Dance and Drama subjects, the merit list will be prepared on the basis of score in Admission test (out of 80) and marks in 10+2 (out of 20). The admission test will consist of 50 marks for Practical and 30 for Theory.

M.A, MFA & M.Li.Sc courses are offered in various disciplines. A relevant UG degree is a must to secure admission in MA course. BFA/ BVA degree holders can apply for MFA while B.Li.Sc or any Master’s degree holders are eligible to apply for the M.Li.Sc program.
Admission in MA (Human Rights) and Mass Communication is granted on the basis of performance in the Admission Test. For other courses, RBU releases the separate merit list as per the marks in Graduation degree.

The Faculty of Arts, Fine Arts and Visual Arts also offers courses at the doctoral level. Those students who have passed Master’s degree with 55% marks in the relevant discipline are eligible to apply for M.Phil & Ph.D. programs. Admission is offered on the basis of Written Test followed by an interview. Candidates have to score minimum 40% marks in the written test and 45% marks in the interview.

- NET/ GATE, CSIR, Teacher Fellowship or M.Phil degree holder candidates will be exempted from the written test.
- Relaxation of 5% marks will be given to those candidates who have completed their Master’s degree prior to September 19, 1991.
RBU M.Phil & Ph.D. Entrance Test: Admission is based on Written test (total 100 marks) of three hours duration followed by an interview. The written test will consist of two papers of 50 marks each.
First paper (Common Research Aptitude Test) is common for the faculties of Arts & Fine Arts and it is based on Research Methodology. This paper will consist total 50 MCQs of one marks each for the duration of one and a half hour.
Second paper will be subject oriented. It will consist Objective and short answer type questions for 10 and 20 marks respectively and an essay writing test (minimum 300 words) for 20 marks.

The Directorate of Distance Education, Rabindra Bharati University, was established during the academic session of 2001-2003 with the approval of Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal. Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) in Kolkata is one of the oldest and the most reputed. The ambience of this institute is slightly different from the usual institutions. It has a more cultural vibe, as it is heavily inspired by the life and works of Rabindranath Tagore.
The admission here is completely merit based. The faculty members are highly experienced in their respective fields, some even having 20 years of teaching experience. The departments have an air of politics. Here students are encouraged to be more culturally active and should blend in with the crowd.
The college is very active when it comes to cultural fests, events, etc. Dancing, singing, acting and recitation are the ways they convey their creativity and authenticity to everyone. Academically, they prefer students to mug up theories rather than actually understanding the concept. The curriculum is not updated considering latest trends.

Comparing universities is not a very good idea. Calcutta University (CU) and Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) are reputed institutions.
The faculties here are well experienced but not punctual, they often leave most of the topics for the students to figure it out themselves.
The administration of these institutions are slow and most of the time do not cater to the students' demands.
Students who genuinely wanted to learn something will be disappointed, as seeking knowledge is not encouraged.
Students are said to mug up theories than to actually understand the concepts.
Booth colleges are infamous for their scoring system. Students claim their answer sheets are not checked properly.
So, if you are willing to study in any one of the institutions, you should remember that your effort and dedication will finally matter and not the name of the college.
