Tripura University is a central University located in West Tripura. Doctor of Philosophy- Ph.D. is one of the highest degrees offered by Tripura University for all the research interested students. - The program shall be offered for a minimum duration of three years to a maximum of six years from the date of admission.

Tripura University West Tripura Ph.D. Eligibility
The Eligibility for the Indian and International students who wish to take up Ph.D. course at the institution are different as detailed below.
Eligibility for Indian Students
- Candidates must have a relevant PG degree with 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 7 from a recognized University.
- Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC can have a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in relevant PG or equivalent provided with a relaxation of 5% marks from a recognized University.
- Eligibility marks of 55% and the relaxation is only applied for the qualifying marks without including any grace marks.
- Any professional degree recognized by UGC/ AICTE are also eligible.
Eligibility for International Students
- Candidates must have a relevant PG degree with project work course of four credits and course of research methodology with four credits with an aggregate of 55% marks.
- Candidate must have a Degree that is equivalent to M.Phil. in an Indian Institution. But this equivalent certification has to be obtained from a Foreign Educational Authority.
- Even if the candidates is holding a degree without these courses, they are eligible to apply.
Tripura University West Tripura Ph.D. Admission Guidelines
Research Eligibility Test (RET) is conducted by the university towards the admission of all the Candidates. Candidates who qualify with 50% marks are further selected to attend a Viva voce examination and are selected based on the overall performance.
- Candidates with a valid score in UGC/ CSIR NET/ SLET/ SET/ GATE are exempted from attending the written test of RET.
- The students willing to take up Ph.D. program in Tripura University must apply through online. Each candidate can apply for a maximum of three courses.
For the Indian Students, the application steps include:

- Students must register themselves first with the necessary password and mail ID.
- Later on, students can log in with the credentials and open the form.

Ph.D. is offered in almost 30 streams that include: Bengali, Economics, Education, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Philosophy, Political science, Psychology, Sanskrit, sociology, Disaster management , management studies, Pharmacy, Commerce, Statistics, Botany, Material Science, Mathematics, Micro Biology, Physics, Zoology, law, Information Technology, Fine arts, Molecular Biology and Bio informatics, Forestry and Biodiversity, Human Physiology, and Chemical and polymer Engineering.
The course work is considered as prerequisite for Ph.D. program. It is spread over in semesters based on three- or six-years duration. Each six months comprises of a semester and students ought to score minimum credits for qualification in each semester. The course curriculum covers areas of quantitative methods, research ethics, field training, and field work.

- Four courses each of four credits are assigned in curriculum.
- Candidates cannot continue with the next semester if they do not qualify in the previous semester.
- Minimum credits are allocated for the students to qualify and a total Credits of 100 must be secured by the scholars for securing the degree.

Tripura University West Tripura Ph.D. Scholarship
Scholarships are provided only for Indian scholars who don’t have financial assistance from any other resource. Students can apply for the scholarships which they are eligible for. Non-NET scholarship is offered for the Indian scholars for Ph.D. program. If the Candidates avail this, they must not receive any scholarships from other resources. Once the non-NET scholarship is declined or stopped, candidates cannot apply for it again.
