Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) offers education in 3-year under-graduation in B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., BBA, and BCA. College offer studies in 2-year Master’s program in MBA, MCA, M.A., M.Com. and M.Sc., Diploma and Post-graduation Diploma courses in multiple specializations.

The college also offers Certificate and Vocational courses. Applicants can apply for the admission to the program offline through the forms available at the study centres.

Applicants to B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., BCA and BBA courses must have passed 10+2 examination from a recognized board.
Those who have applied to M.Com., M.A., M.Com. and M.Sc. courses must have passed Bachelor’s courses from a recognized board.

Admission to under-graduation is based on completion of 10+2 or TNOU BPP conducted by the Tamil Nadu Open University.
Candidates who are admitted under 10+2 into a Bachelor degree program will have to necessarily complete the Bachelor of Preparatory Program to be eligible for the degree program.
The BPP Examinations will be conducted before the commencement of the Semester examination.
Self-learning materials, in print and electronic medium, is provided by the Tami Nadu Open University.
Counselling is conducted by the University at various locations in the State. Counselling sessions are held during the months of March-May, and September-November, respectively.
Applicants can simultaneously register themselves for any one year Diploma Program or Certificate Program of six months duration.

Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) UG Admissions 2023: BA, B.Com., BBA, BCA and B.Sc.

Admission to three-year full-time under-graduate B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., BCA and BBA programs are offered by Tamil Nadu Open University - [TNOU]. Lateral entry to two-year BCA is also offered based on fulfillment of basic eligibility. The minimum eligibility to apply for undergraduate courses is having passed 10+2 in relevant subjects. Key points:

Applicants having Degrees awarded by the Universities which are not recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) are not eligible for admission to the Program.
Only those applicants who have passed the qualifying examination either under the 10+2+3 pattern of education or under the 11+1+3 pattern of education or 11+2+2 pattern of education or under the Open University system will be eligible for admission to the Program.
The copies of the Certificates enclosed should be duly certified by a person authorized to attest the Certificates must be enclosed.

Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) Application Process 2023

Students applying for Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate, Diploma and PG Diploma programs offered by the Tamil Nadu Open University [TNOU] must visit the specified study centres to get the application forms and prospectus. The final selection of the candidates is based on completion of qualifying exam followed by counselling.

The Application Forms can be obtained from the study centers on the payment of prescribed payment of Rs. 100/- in cash.
Application forms can also be obtained From the Deputy Registrar, MPDD, TNOU, 577, Anna Salai, Saidapet, Chennai– 600 015 by post on payment of Rs.150/- by demand draft issued in favour of the Tamil Nadu Open University payable at Chennai.
Admission forms need to be submitted to the study centres on or before April 30th or October 31st of the academic year.
On submission of the Application Form, the Study Centre will issue a statement of acknowledgment to the Applicant and forward the Forms to the Zonal Centres.
The Admission Wing, after the detailed examination of the Application Forms, shall allot the Enrollment Number and send the ID Cards to the Study Centres for handing over to the students.
Then the students may quote their Enrollment Number in all their further references with the University.
Applicants who wish to enroll for a Diploma/ Certificate Program under the scheme of Dual Registration shall submit separate Application Forms.
Separate copies of the eligibility and other certificates, a photograph of the applicant and the signature of the applicant should be attested by any one of the Group A and Group B Officers.
For all the Program the fees shall be paid to the University. The fees may be remitted in any branch of the State Bank of India or Indian Bank.
For remitting the fees, the applicant may use the photocopy of the remittance Challan Form enclosed in the Prospectus. The Banker will return the challan of TNOU copy and STUDENT copy.
The applicant will have to enclose the TNOU copy of the remitted challan with the application for Admission. They may also consult their Study Centers regarding remittance of fees.
Applicants may submit the filled in Application Forms along with the University copy of the Challan.
Selected candidates will have to get their documents verified and the counselling will be held on the dates prescribed.

University provides the facilities to reserved category and disabled candidates in the form of exemption from tuition fees. Following are the facilities available to the students:

SC/ ST students who are pursuing distance education are eligible for reimbursement of fees if they are not employed and if the annual income of their parents does not exceed INR 1,00,000

The students should apply for scholarships in the prescribed form to be obtained from the Offices of Adi Dravidar/ Tribal Welfare Department along with the supporting documents.

Differently-abled students studying a Program at the University are eligible for tuition fee exemption.
The candidate may apply in the prescribed Application Form, for admission along with the core banking challan for INR 300 enclosing a copy of the disability certificate.

We all believe that getting a degree from a university or education is just all. Obviously, one should have mandatory basic education till class 10th /12th. But after that, you should look forward to your personal interest and then pursue further studies. Continuing education for the sake of a degree is not a good option.

There is a huge difference between pupil and student life. When you are in school you are taught and in college, you have to learn as a student. This urge of students to grab just a degree has degraded their own careers. In India, lakhs of students graduate every year but only a few are suitable for their respective job roles. Even for a Grade “C” and “D”, lakhs of graduates apply. Not only have they, but many dropouts from schools also apply for such jobs. And this is how they all are degrading their career and country’s economy.

So, your first priority should be that you access yourself and understand what you want to do in life. Because we get one life and spending half of it in getting degrees and half in searching for a job is not a thing. Choose wisely because all your future depends on such decisions. Good luck!

Is it good to do a BBA from an open university run by a state government like KSOU and TNOU to get in a better college in the future for studying an MBA?

Joining an MBA college does not usually depend on a student graduating with a regular course or correspondence course. But if you are not from a regular course, you tend to miss a lot of experiences which are only possible in a college atmosphere.

During your interview for admission in an MBA course, you will be asked why you opted for this rather than a regular college. You might have to put some more focus on extracurriculars as they will also come in handy during your selection.

Your selection will only be considered if there are not many students from regular courses applying for MBA. It is a very rare situation, and you should not depend on it.

It is suggested that you go for correspondence BBA or any graduate course. Join the full-time program and get familiar with the classroom environment. Symbiosis or Manipal is recommended for BBA as they are more reputed colleges than state Universities.

Tamil Nadu Open University the first Open University of Chennai located in the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu. The courses offered by University are recognized by UGC, NCTE, RCI, and DEB. Various UG and PG programs such as BA, BCom, BSc, BBA, MBA, MCA, MA, MSc, and various certificate and vocational courses are offered to candidates including BA in English.

BA English literature is the most common course among the students of humanities and various specializations under humanities. However, distance education programs for BA hold lesser value. Here are a few highlights about the BA in English program offered by the institute.

Curriculum:

The syllabus of the BA English program follows a credit system. In the 1st 2 years, students are required to complete 36 credits and in the 3rd year, there are 32 credits.
In 1st and 2nd year, along with English, students need to study another language, such as Tamil, Urdu, French, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu.
The course curriculum includes the Age of Chaucer, Restoration Age, Romantic Age, Victorian Age, Social History of England, American Literature, Modern English Literature, Introduction to Literary Criticism and Theories, Introduction to Language & Linguistics, etc.

For instance, an MBA from IGNOU and symbiosis always has a higher value than a distance MBA from any IIM but a full-time course at IIM could match nothing. So do your research and choose accordingly.
