Course Description

BTech at Sastra University is a full-time program offered for a duration of 4 years. The B.Tech program is specialized in various disciplines including Aerospace Engineering, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Technology & more. The minimum criteria for applying to these courses are HSC qualification from a recognized board. In addition, the applicant should be younger than 19 years old.

Sastra University B.Tech Eligibility Criteria

To apply for B.Tech admissions at Sastra University, the applicant should have the following eligibility criteria as prescribed by the relevant authorities.

Candidates should have cleared class 12th exam with Physics and Mathematics as a compulsory subject and any among Bio-Technology/ Computer Science/ Biology/ Chemistry or its equivalent
The candidates should have scored more than 60% aggregate marks in their three chosen subjects in class 12 exam in a single sitting
The upper age limit for admission to Sastra University is 19 years old at the time of admission
Students who have a diploma in Engineering can take direct admission to the 2nd year of their specialization. The upper age limit of lateral entry candidates is 21 years at the time of admission

Sastra University B.Tech Admission Criteria

Admissions to B.Tech in Sastra University are done under 2 streams. In stream 1, 70% of the seats are allotted and in stream 2, 30% of the seats are allotted. Under stream 1 students are selected on the basis of their combined score of JEE Main and class 12th, while in stream 2 only the class 12th score is considered.
Candidates should note that in stream 1, 75% weightage will be given to class 12th scores and 25% to JEE Main score. The combined score of both of them would be used to make the final merit list. On the other hand in stream 2 100% of weightage will be given to class 12th score. Candidates do not need to fill a separate application form for applying through different streams.
In case a student had not appeared for JEE Main but applied through stream 1, his score for JEE Main would be counter 0 but his class 12th score would be given 75% weightage to calculate the final score. However, his score of class 12th would be given 100% weightage in stream 2. This way a candidate would be considered for both streams 1 and 2 by default.
Following the submission of the application form, the merit list of the candidates will be released. After that, students would be called for the counselling process. In counselling 1, students of stream 1 would be allotted seats and in counselling 2, the students of stream 2 would be allotted seats.

The B.Tech course at Sastra University has a total of 225 credits comprising 25% practical and 75% theory. There is an average of 27 credits per semester. The final semester includes viva and project work.

The first year constitutes 61 credits while out of the remaining 164 credits, the students have to earn 108 credits through core courses, 12 through interdisciplinary open electives, and 31 by departmental electives. Students can also earn 9 credits for the end semester project and 4 for HR skills.

Ques. Can students who attend the 1st counselling attend further counselling rounds for B.Tech admission at Sastra University?

Ans. Yes, in case a student had already taken admission under stream 1 counselling, he can still appear for the 2nd round of counselling in which seats are allotted to students of stream 2 merit list. Additional rounds of counselling might be held in case of vacancies.

Ans. The merit list will be released online on the official website of the university. Candidates will have to enter their application number and DoB to check the merit list. Based on their score, candidates will be called for counselling.

Ans. In case a candidate finds any discrepancy in any section of the merit list, he can raise objections to the merit list within a stipulated time of 48 hours from the release of the merit list. No further requests would be entertained after that.

Ans. To raise an objection to the merit list, the student will have to send the details through an email at registrar@sastra.edu mentioning the wrong details and providing the correct one. The subject of the email should be Application Error.

The only way to join SASTRA University without merit-based admission is through the NRI quota. However, the number of seats is limited. You will need to register for it. Yes, CGPA at SASTRA does matter, especially if you have low CGPA. It will affect your placement and as well as other things. But if you are proficient in programming then you can get into companies like Google without CGPA being a problem. If you have a low GPA, you will miss out on the following things. ACRS: If you want to finish your course in the 7th semester, you will need a GPA of 7.5+. To get the course you want you will need to have around an 8.5 GPA. Although most companies set 7.0 GPA requirements. Most dream companies ask for a GPA of 8+. You won’t be able to go to your graduation ceremony, since SASTRA only invites students with GPAs of 7.5+. Apart from these above reasons, GPA matters for other reasons too. While hiring, companies look at your GPA, not to evaluate how much you know. Sastra University is one of the most reputed institutes in South India, especially for engineering. In 2020, it was ranked 50 for university and 38 for B.Tech by NIRF. I have a few friends from Sastra University. Here are some of the information regarding the institute that my friends shared. Infrastructure: There are costly research facilities, i.e. ASK1 and ASK2. There are plenty of things that you can explore if you are genuinely interested. For branches like ECE, Mech, Civil, CSE the laboratory facilities provided are excellent. The classrooms have projectors. Sastra offers hostel accommodation for their students. The hostel facilities are decent. There is a post office and ATM near the hostels. The campus has two canteens i.e Canopy and Krishna Canteen, on-campus that offers decent food at affordable prices. There are a few eateries around the campus too. Faculty and Curriculum: The faculty base of the institute is great. The curriculum was renewed recently. It is updated with the industry requirements. Mark System and Scholarships: Sastra follows a GPA system. Having a decent GPA can help you get scholarships and even a chance to sit for placement in reputed companies. If you have a GPA of around 8.5, you can sit for companies like Amazon, Cypress, etc. Although most companies allow students with a 7.5 CGPA to sit for placements. Placement: The placement record of the institute is great. In the 2021 placement drive, the highest CTC offered by the university was 27 LPA. Overall, Sastra University is great. It will offer great infrastructure, decent facilities, and placement at an affordable fee.
