PHD in Information Technology: Admission Process

Candidates will be selected through an Entrance Test followed by an interview. The Entrance Test will next be conducted in First or Second week of July. The interview of the short-listed candidates will be taken immediately after the entrance test.

Selection Process:

The eligible candidates will have to appear in a written MCQ examination of 1 hour duration followed by interview to be held in this Department which will be informed to the candidates after the initial screening process.

Eligibility Criteria

A pass in Master’s Degree offered / Master’s degree notified by AIU as equivalent of any University and recognized as specialization of the Department of Information Technology with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA).

Admission Guidelines

The selection of candidates for provisional admission shall be based on the following procedure:

The Entrance Test for the Ph.D. programme (Full-time, Part-time and External India and Foreign) will be conducted for all. The process will be coordinated by the Controller of Examinations.
The selection shall be based on marks obtained in the qualifying degree, a written test and an interview.
The weightage for Qualifying Degree Examinations will be given for 50 marks. The written test shall comprise objective type questions and examine research aptitude, grasp of the subject, intellectual ability, and general knowledge of the prospective candidates. The question paper for the written Test shall be prepared for one hour duration. Question papers will be set and evaluated by the DRC for 25 marks. The interview will be conducted for 25 marks. The cut off marks for the selection shall be fixed as 50%.
Candidates with M.Phil. Degree from an approved University, UGC-JRF/ NET / SLET / GATE / CSIR / ICAR /ICSSR qualified candidates and teacher fellowship holders are exempted from the Entrance Test but they have to appear for the interview.
The Interview will be conducted by different departments simultaneously following the written test on the same day. At the time of interview, the candidates are expected to indicate their chosen area of research and the research supervisor.
The allocation of the Research Supervisor for a selected student will depend upon the vacancy, the number of students per faculty member permitted by the University, the available specializations among the faculty supervisors, and the research interest of the student as indicated during the interview by the student.
For candidates who wish to undertake interdisciplinary research, there will be two Supervisors – a Research Supervisor in the Department where he/she is registered, and a Co-Supervisor in the relevant discipline.
The “Minutes of the DRC” shall indicate the chosen guide and the research area of the candidate. The DRC shall certify that the selected topic for research is not a repetition of earlier Ph.D. research works.
The Minutes of the DRC together with the recommendation will be placed before the Vice-Chancellor, who in consultation with the Head of the Department and the Dean of the Faculty will select and admit the candidate for the Ph.D. programme under a Research Supervisor.
A candidate provisionally selected for admission for the Ph.D. programme shall join on or before the specified date after paying the prescribed fees and verification of certificates of the qualifying examination(s).
A full time Scholar admitted for the Ph.D. degree may be allowed to pursue any one programme at any given time offered by DDE of Annamalai University only.
A full time Scholar shall not undertake any employment either part-time or full time anywhere.

You can get your degree certificate from Annamalai University by following the below steps.

Fill in the Convocation form which is available on the official website.
Attach your provisional certificate and final year marksheet with the form. You need to pay a convocation fee as well.
Send it to the Controller of Examination, Annamalai University.

Annamalai University offers a variety of 457 courses across 17 streams. The college offers UG, PG, Diploma courses, and Ph.D. under various departments, such as Department of Engineering & Technology, Arts, Agriculture, Dentistry, Medicine, Fine Arts, Marine Sciences. NIRF ranked the university 92nd overall, in the country last year. The college also offers various courses in distance mode.

Fee Structure- Since it is a state Institution, the fee is very low as compared to other top institutes. The fee charged for some of the courses is as follows-

B.Sc.- 25,570/year
M.Sc.- 36,450/year
MBA- 56,450/year
Ph.D.- 38,400/year
B.Ed.- 42,000/year

Campus life- International workshops, State level sports even and Cultural programs are conducted in the college. The college also provides facilities like wi-fi, library, medical facilities, food and accommodation etc.

Internships- The college also provides internship opportunities and scholarships to the deserving students. The students are selected on the basis of their merit.

Faculty- There are more than 100 lecturers in the university and most of them are Ph.D. scholars and have an expert background.

How can I get transcripts from Annamalai University?

The best possible way to get transcripts is to visit the university and apply for it. A friend of mine strongly suggested not to apply through any middle agents or online transcript agencies. You can send in a representative with a letter of authorization provided by the candidate.

The complete process takes a couple of days. Once you have arrived at the university then go to the examination office for further direction. You will need copies of:

Marksheets
Consolidated Marksheet (if any)
Provisional Degree Certificate
Degree Certificate
Payment Receipt

The cost of the transcripts is around Rs.3500 including the courier charges. However, if you wish to inquire at the front office as they will guide better regarding the required fee and other procedures. They would also give you a form to be filled with all the details.

You will be advised to go to a browsing centre to do the payment from the university staff. So, do the payment via a computer rather than the phone. Here are the steps that would help you make payments online:

Open the university website, go to the examinations, fees, other miscellaneous fees.
You will have to enter the amount and pay for it online. However, the payment would be slow and it would go through.
If you don't get the acknowledgment slip then simply enter the enrollment number again and click on acknowledge and one will get the receipt and take a printout of that slip.

Once the payment is done then you need to go to an officer for the seal and stamp. Then you will be asked to meet the Chief examinations officer for documents verification. After all this work, the work at the university is done. Put all the documents in an envelope and seal it as per the requirements and the university itself would courier it to the required personal.

The university provides a telephone number that you can use to call them to get the tracking number. However, the calls do not get answered. My personal advice would be to go to the university as it works faster. Try to arrive early as it will fasten up your process. Do not approach any middle man or any other online transcript services as the University has strict rules regarding it and they do not acknowledge it.
