Established in 1995, Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) is located in Gangtok, Sikkim. The university is affiliated to AIU, DEC as well as All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Sikkim Manipal University offers a wide range of UG, PG and Research level courses in the streams of Science, Engineering & Technology, Commerce, Management Studies, Medical and Health Sciences.

The admission procedure for Sikkim Manipal University differs for different courses. For admission to some courses, the university conducts separate entrance tests, interviews and group discussion rounds in order to evaluate the candidates, whereas admission is purely based on the merit of the candidates for other courses.

For B.Tech, candidates should have passed 10+2/equivalent with 50% marks in PCM.
Candidates will be shortlisted for B.Tech course based on JEE Main / MAHE-OET or SMIT Offline Test score.
In case of Lateral Entry B.Tech, selection will be done on the basis of qualifying degree marks and entrance test scores.
For BBA/BCA/B Sc IT, candidates should have passed 10+2 in any stream with 50% marks. Admission will be done on merit basis.
Selection of candidates for MCA/M.Sc (IT) will be done on the basis of Entrance Test conducted by SMIT.
In case of MBA, the candidate should have passed Bachelors degree in any discipline with 50% marks.
Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of MAT & CAT score / University Entrance Test and GDs/PIs.
Admission to M.Tech is done on the basis of GATE/MAHE-OET/Entrance Test scores.
For B.Com/BA admission, the candidate should have passed 10+2 in the relevant stream. Admission will be done on merit basis.
In case of M.Com and M.Sc, the candidate should have passed bachelors degree in the relevant discipline.
For MBBS admission, the candidate should have passed 10+2/equivalent with 50% marks in PCB.
Admission to MBBA and MD/MS courses will be done through NEET scores.
Candidates will be shortlisted to B.Sc (Nursing), M.Sc (Nursing) BPT, MPT and MHA will be done on qualifying examination merit basis.
In case of PhD, candidates should have passed PG degree in the relevant discipline. Admission will be done on the basis of University Entrance Test/NET scores.

Sikkim Manipal University MBBS Admission 2023

SMU offers Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) to the candidates who want to pursue their career in the Medical field. The course is offered for 4.5 years including internship.

Candidates who have passed 10+2 level or equivalent in the stream of Science in relevant discipline with minimum 50% marks from a recognized academic institution are considered eligible for the MBBS programme.

Admission in MBBS is done through NEET UG. Eligible candidates will have to appear in National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by CBSE. Those who aspire to give entrance test can visit the official

Sikkim Manipal University B.Sc (Nursing) and Integrated M.Sc Admission 2023

The university has two medical courses B.Sc in Nursing and Integrated M.Sc with a duration of four and five years respectively.

A degree in 10+2 level or equivalent from a recognized academic institute with Physics, Chemistry and Biology is a common eligibility criteria for both of the courses. B.Sc Nursing programme demands at least 45% of marks in aggregate in 10+2 level while to fulfil the eligibility criteria for the Integrated M.Sc programme, candidates need to score at least 50% marks in 10+2 level.

Admission in both of the courses is done on the basis of marks obtained in last qualifying examination in relevant discipline. Failing to meet the eligibility criteria will lead to the elimination of the candidates from the admission process.

Keynote: A 5% marks relaxation is availed by the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category.

Sikkim Manipal University UG Admission 2023

The university provides a bunch of different courses at the UG level comprising numerous specializations. BPT, B.Tech, BCA, B.Sc, BBA, B.Com and BS Engineering are offered by the university. The university also accepts a lateral entry in B.Tech programme. All the UG programmes hold a duration of three years except the B.Tech and BS Engineering programmes, both of these courses are of four years.

Candidates must have passed 10+2 level or equivalent examination from any recognized academic institute to meet the eligibility criteria for UG courses. Only the eligible candidates are allowed to appeal for the concerned courses.

For admission into the B.Tech and BS Engineering programmes, eligible candidates will have to appear for one of the entrance examinations depending upon the category under which they are seeking admission.

General Category, Defence, North East, Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) and Paramilitary Force Categories : The candidates will have to appear for the JEE to be conducted by the CBSE. Sikkim Category: The candidates should apply to the Director, Technical Education, HRDD, Government of Sikkim. They should appear in the Entrance test conducted by the Government. Sikkim Manipal University MD and MS Admission 2023

At postgraduate level, Sikkim Manipal University offers Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS) in multiple specializations. The duration period for each of the specializations is three years. The total number of seats available depends upon the nature of specializations.

At the PG level the university serves three regular courses like Master of Arts (M.A), Master of Science (M.Sc) and Master of Commerce (M.Com) holding a duration of two years. Willing candidates need to hold a graduation level degree in relevant discipline, in order to get admission.

The university provides Master of Hotel Management (MHM) to provide knowledges and lessons about to hold a managerial positions in the the tourism and hospitality industry with a duration of two years. The university also comprises Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) for the candidates pursuing higher studies in this area. Duration of MPT programme is also two years.

The campus is situated in a remote location. The internal infrastructure is moderate. But, students always head towards a successful career.
Companies like TCS, which is a major recruiter of the institute, consider SMIT as a tier-1 institute. Even some NITs are not falling under the tier-1 category.

No, the administration is not particularly the best at Sikkim Manipal University. I know a few people from the institute and here is what they had to say about the institute.

There is a huge locational disadvantage of the university, given the constant issues faced by students. Recently, they have installed an ATM machine.
The mess of the institute is not in its best condition. It is run by local people. They do not especially get concerned about the complaints students usually submit. The quality of food is not good even though they take exorbitant amounts of money for the food.
The administration doesn’t take the necessary steps to resolve the issues raised by students.
According to one of my friends from the CSE department they were not allowed to take industrial training from other companies.
The professors are not gonna invest much of their time in your project. However, your project may get rejected for silly mistakes.
Recently, in terms of placement, TCS rejected SMIT, while Amazon only hired students as their interns. The placement scenario is not good.

Yes, you can migrate to Canada or any other country even if you have any degree from SMU. The sole criteria for this is not a degree and you must fulfill other eligibility as well.

The Comprehensive Ranking System for Canadian immigration is not based on whether you have a regular degree or a distance degree, given that the university must be recognized.

SMU is duly recognized by UGC for ODL programs. You can easily apply to Canada. Go for the ECA process at ICAS as they evaluate the application process at SMU. The management authorities are very supportive and they will help you in getting the transcripts.

They have an excellent faculty, hard-working and cooperative.

Manipal University which is based out in Karnataka is the parent organization of Sikkim Manipal University. Manipal University (MU) is well ahead of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) in terms of placement quality, infrastructure, faculty, and other factors.

Many people, on the other hand, believe that Sikkim Manipal is the parent organization of Manipal University in Karnataka. Some people have never heard of the Manipal University of Karnataka, but thanks to aggressive marketing, everyone has heard of SMU.

A degree from SMU is worth only half as much as a degree from Manipal University in Karnataka. However, I know some folks who attended SMU and are doing rather well, owing to their abilities rather than the college they chose.

In general, SMU is not a great option for your studies. The remote learning or online MBA program, which is promoted and marketed significantly on television, is not nearly as beneficial as it appears. The MBA program at SMU is ranked amongst the top 10% of MBA programs in India, and the MBA program at LPU is ranked 40th in India by the Outlook 2020. SMU has a total of 25 MBA courses, and LPU has around 8.

The total fee for SMU ranges between 1-4 lakhs with 60 seats in the general MBA course. The total fee for LPU ranges between 4-6 lakhs, with 360 seats for the general MBA and 20-30 seats in the other courses.

SMU:

Candidates need to sit for the university entrance examination and score 45% in the test.
Scores from CAT/CMAT/GMAT/IGNOU/SNAP/XAT are also accepted.
