₹ 28,400The Sant Longowal Institute Of Engineering & Technology is an autonomous institution situated in Longowal, a small town in the district of Sangrur in Punjab. I have a known relative who is an alumnus of the institute. The following points are based on his experiences:
Pros
There are cons as well. The institute is situated in a remote area and it would be difficult for you to get coaching classes for GATE and other competitive exams.
The facilities provided by the institute leave a lot to be desired and so does the management which you will see in every technical institute funded by the government.
My brother graduated in B.Tech (CS) from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology. I have heard about the advantages and disadvantages of enrolling in SLIET.

Placements:-
If you spend your four years in this university, it wouldn’t be a waste of your money. Earlier, the placement of this college wasn’t good enough but last year a total of 41 companies visited the university and 195 students got placed in the best companies. Due to COVID, the placement is still in progress.
The top recruiters who came to the university in 2020 were Cognizant, Hindustan Unilever Limited, Nestle India, Capgemini, Softstar, Nature Bio Food, TCS, Ralson, Godrej, and many more.
Thus, the University keeps academics on priority and fun at the same time.
For a BTech, UIET is better than SLIET Sangrur. It is a part of Panjab University and is more reputed compared to the local technological institutes. UIET placements are better as well. According to the placement highlights of 2022, the average CTC offered by the institute was INR 6.96 LPA. While the highest CTC for the institute is INR 31 LPA. Microsoft, Google, Amazon, etc. are among the major recruiters that take part in UIET placements.
Both NERIST and SLIET have the same education structure, which includes courses such as ITI, Diploma, and Degree with specialization in a core engineering trade. Both universities are excellent and provide opportunities. Here is a brief overview of the institutes.
Parameters | NERIST | SLIET |
Average CTC | 3 LPA | 3.2 LPA |
Highest CTC | 7.3 LPA | 4 LPA |
Major recruiters | Wipro, Tech Mahindra, SAP Consultancy | Walmart, TCS, Infosys |
The fact is that both universities give you fantastic opportunities to transform your future. SLIET stands for West, whereas NERIST stands for East.
So, choose according to your convenience.
I have friends from both Tezpur University and SLIET Sangrur. Based on the conversations I had with them, I will say for CSE TU is far better.
So, TU is better than SLIET in all respects. It is in fact the best option to do CSE after IIT-G.
My brother was a student of the Electrical Engineering 2019 batch, so I can tell you about it.
In terms of academics, it is really a good Institute with world-class faculty members in their fields. They will assist you greatly even if your problem is not academic in nature, despite the fact that some teachers' teaching methods are deplorable.
You don't have to be concerned about maintaining a decent CGPA. You'll be able to easily crack competitive exams like GATE, IES, or even get a good placement (many Gold medalists are unable to clear the GATE cut-off). Focus on skills and knowledge rather than CGPA (but at least you should have 8).
One more important point to consider that if you are planning to enroll in any core branch, I strongly advise you to begin preparing for GATE, IES, UPSC, CAT, or any competitive exam in your first year or as soon as possible, rather than coding or programming. You will have plenty of time to study for all of these. It will really help you in the future.
To be honest, it's negligible; yes, this is the word that no one wants to hear when deciding on a career path. But why should I brag if it's not true? So here's why:
First, unlike EE or mechanical, food technology is not a core branch. India is still a developing country, and we consume less processed food than people in Western countries. The vast majority of the population is vegetarian and animal products require most of the processing.
Even though we have access to processed foods in the market, we prefer to purchase local items at the local market than from a supermarket.
The same thing occurs with fruits and vegetables. Because there is no room for negotiation in the sealed product, and it is quite expensive, it has gone through a series of processing units
Food technology is not a bad field but its scope is much wider in foreign countries than in India. You can go for a PG course from some of the best colleges like CFTRIS, and develop other necessary skills. You will barely be able to get a decent job in S.L.I.E.T with only a graduate degree, but before you take food tech, think properly that you really want to do it or not.
Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) was deemed to be a university approved by AICTE. It is an autonomous institute. It is located at Sangrur, Punjab.
Bhagalpur College of Engineering (BCE) is set by the Department of Science and Technology, Bihar and recognized by AICTE. It has a faculty strength of 68 members, 12 of them being PhD holders.

Both colleges are equally good in their own respective ways. Though according to placement records SLIET is better than BCE. Though this placement record changes every year with the participation of more students and the recruiting companies. It lastly depends on the student’s preference of location, affordability, environment and subject provided by the colleges and which they find suitable.
Along with your diploma course, you should pursue your degree course in engineering. In this competitive world having only one diploma will not serve the purpose. For this, you need a degree.
As for the diploma, Sant Longowal Institue of Engineering and Technology is a good option. I have heard good things about their CSE diploma program from my friends who attend the institute. You can also go for other options if you have any.
But I will suggest that don’t rely solely on your diploma, for job offers. Doing a degree after the completion of your diploma will certainly make you more eligible for future job offers. After the completion of your degree program, you will notice that you will get an ample amount of opportunities as compared to your diploma program.
Overall Sant Longowal Institue of Engineering and Technology is good you will get ample amount of opportunity for growth and development.
The annual technical festival of Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sangrur, Punjab (SLIET) is one of the oldest technical fests. Some of my close friends studied there, so I might be able to give you some basic information.
You can also visit the campus of SLIET (Techfest) and enquire about it on your own. Look for an application form that is specifically for the position of Campus Ambassador. Do not be surprised if there isn't any such program offered there. Just check their website or give them a call or just drop a mail to them asking about SLIET.
