There is no such marking system at BPUT. They provide only grades and you cannot figure out how many marks you have scored in the examination. The grading system is as follows:

Grades

Marks Range

O

90-100

E

80-89

A

70-79

B

60-69

C

50-59

D

35-49

F

Here it is mentioned that O is the highest level. Grade C is considered to be an average grade. Grade D is the passing grade for theory and Grade C is a passing grade for Practical, seasonal, project, seminar, and viva voice. You need to know that collecting transcripts from BPUT is a very long and tiring process. Following are the steps to collect transcripts from BPUT:

  • You will first have to fill up the transcript application form of BPUT mentioning the number of sets of transcripts you want.
  • Write an application mentioning the reason why you need these many sets of transcripts. The application would be addressed to The Registrar, BPUT Office.
  • Always have proof of your transcript requirement. In case you are going for higher studies, you can even attach a screenshot of the transcript requirement section of the college websites you want to attend.
  • Each set of transcripts costs INR 400. You need to make a Demand Draft of the total amount in favor of BPUT, payable at Rourkela. If you want to apply for 6 colleges, it would be better if you collect 10 sets of transcripts. It is always better to keep extras.
  • You need to get some documents and get the application forwarded from the Dean of the college. The documents include:
  • Transcript Application Form
  • Hand-Written Transcript Requirement.
  • Proofs of Transcript Requirement
  • Demand Draft
  • You should personally visit the BPUT office in Rourkela to initiate the transcript application process in the BPUT office.
  • You would need the registrar to approve the application for transcripts.
  • But BPUT being a government college, the Registrar would be on leave for almost 20 days a month. Usually, they inform the people to come and collect their transcripts after 15 days.
  • You should visit the office personally after 10-12 days along with the required A4 size envelopes to collect your transcripts.
  • You might even have to visit the college 3-4 times to get the transcripts.

This process is the most tiring one but you need to be very patient while handling this phase. Once you receive the transcripts, you would feel a sense of achievement and a lot of relief.

As per the new rules declared in 2018-19, you must clear a total of 179 credits (regular) and 129 credits (LE) to get your degree. If your total credits are greater than the above-said criterion, you can definitely skip the extra credit subject if you want to. For example, if you have a total credit score of 182, then you can willingly skip 182-179=3 credit subjects.

  • You need to fill up an application form available in the examination department of your college.
  • You can skip only one of your exams in all 4 years. Moreover, you can skip the subject only when you pass out.
  • To know about your total credits, download the syllabus for your branch, go to the eighth-semester syllabus and check the total credit points from the Total Cumulative Points written over there.
  • For the lateral entry students, add the first and second semester credits of first-year and subtract them from 179. The credits of (179-1st year credits) are the minimum credits, say X. Now add the credits of each semester starting from 3rd to 8th, say Y. So now, you can skip Y-X credits.

Now, suppose you have skipped one of your exams. The SGPA calculation on skipping the exam would be as follows:

Grade

Score

O

10

E

9

A

8

B

7

C

6

D

5

F

2

M

0

S

0

The credit points per subject (CP) = Score* Credits of that subject

Credit Index (Sem)(CI)= Sum of all subjects*CP

Total credits (TC)= Total credit of each semester (Exclude the credits of the skipped subject)

SGPA=CI/TC.

This would be the new way to calculate your SGPA, once you skip an exam.

You always need to remember that if you are a student in BPUT, your syllabus is huge and the time period is very limited. You have to work on your own. Following are some tips and tricks for you to clear the BPUT exam:

  • Listen to lectures in every class very carefully and try to make notes out of them.
  • Check the syllabus and match it with your notes. If you feel that any of the topics is missing, you need to go through that topic from the textbook.
  • If you still have doubts regarding that topic, you can go through YouTube videos. There are many videos on YouTube on these. They would definitely give you clarity in that particular concept.
  • Always try to make notes for every topic covered in the class. This will help you throughout the semester.
  • After the completion of one module, you must go through the previous year's questions of that module and try answering them.
  • During the semester exams, go through the notes thoroughly.
  • If you are not so good at studies, you should practice these questions as many times as possible and try to memorize the answers.

You would definitely pass the exam with good grade points unless you have any attendance issues or backlogs.
