According to the 2021 placement report, here is the average salary package received by NMIMS students.

NMIMS Mumbai Average Package:

Average CTC  INR 18.45 LPA
CTC for top 50 students INR 25.16 LPA
CTC for top 100 students INR 22.89 LPA
CTC for top 150 students  INR 21.55 LPA
CTC for top 200 students  INR 20.16 LPA

You should note that average salary is not the right measure of placements. There are students who get placement packages above INR 25 LPA. There are also students who get packages around INR 8-9 LPA. The right measure of placements is the median salary which isn’t usually mentioned explicitly often. But if you are aiming to secure a salary package above INR 16 LPA, you can certainly get it with strategic preparation.

NMIMS Mumbai is a good option for MBA. It ranks right after the old and top IIM. NMIMS Mumbai placements are excellent. Many national and multinational companies take part in campus recruitment. During placements 2022, students received an average CTC of INR 19.40 LPA.

The academics offered at NMIMS can be compared to premium management institutes. NMIMS employs a case-study-based teaching methodology. It has a tie-up with Harvard Business Review.

One of the drawbacks of the institute is the huge batch size. NMIMS student intake is over 500. Due to the large batch size, the competition during placement becomes extremely high.

The cutoff for NMAT 2022 varies in percentile for different NMIMS campuses (Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Indore, Navi Mumbai), ranging from 80 to 95 percentile, with NMIMS Mumbai having the highest cutoff. Meeting the NMAT cutoff is crucial for students to proceed to further selection stages, which include a Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI).

To determine the final merit list, NMIMS considers several factors, each assigned a different weightage:

  • NMAT Score - 70%
  • Group/Case Discussion - 10%
  • Personal Interview - 10%
  • Academic Performance - 5%
  • Work Experience - 5%

For further details regarding the NMAT NMIMS 2022 cutoff, students are advised to check the official website of the institute.

Is NMIMS a good college for an MBA?

Yes, NMIMS, Mumbai is an excellent option for an MBA. Due to the locational advantage, it offers good placements and exposure. Huge list of companies visit the campus placement each year. NMIMS Mumbai placements highlights for 2022, show an average CTC of INR 19 LPA.

NMIMS Mumbai focuses a lot on academics outside of traditional classroom teaching. Their approach to academics is unique. You will learn through Bloomberg labs, the WeCare internship program, an unparalleled repository of e-journals and market data.

The only drawback for the institute is its huge batch size. This results in a dip in placements.

It is a difficult decision. NMIMS is a good b-school but it is a compromise compared to the top-tier management institutes in the country. Since you managed to get calls from XLRI and SPJIMR, there is a good chance that you will be able to score well in CAT/XAT next year.

If you decide to get admission to XLRI, or SPJIMR make sure that you graduate among the top 10-20% of the batch. An average student from XLRI or SPJIMR receives similar job opportunities as a student from NMIMS.

Among these, Amity College is the best option for pursuing Law.  As Law is a multidisciplinary branch, most students usually find it confusing to choose the right specialization at the bachelor's level.

For such cases, Amity University Mumbai is the best option. Amity follows a curriculum that will you give you the freedom to choose from a variety of specializations. You can pursue your Bachelor of Law degree with Bachelor of Arts, Bachelors of Commerce, Bachelors of Business Administration, and Bachelors of Science. It also offers electives like Communication Skills, Foreign Language, etc.

With the help of corporate resource center, mock court sessions, industrial visits, and guest lectures, Amity also offers the practical education students need.

How do I get into NMIMS Mumbai?

NMIMS Mumbai takes admission through NMAT. According to the cutoff trends, the expected cutoff for 2022 is 210+. But it is an oversimplified answer. Being one of the top B-School in the country, around 90000 applicants take NMAT every year. Only around 3000 students are called for the GD/PI round and around 600 students are shortlisted for the final selection. So, only 0.7% of students are selected from the students taking NMAT. In order to get admission, you will need to be among the top 1% of the students. Here are some helpful tips regarding the admission process.

NMIMS Mumbai Admission 2022:

  • NMIMS Mumbai allows you to take 3 attempts of NMAT. You should take advantage of all three of these attempts.
  • NMAT doesn’t have negative markings. So, you should try to attempt as many questions as you can.
  • The case discussion round will take place with around 12 other participants. You will be given a one-page case and 5 mins preparation time, before the 15 mins case discussion. Through this round, they want to see how you structure and approach a case.
  • After the case discussion round there will be a personal interview round with 3 panelists. They usually ask questions based on your CV and current affairs

Work hard to score above 210+ in NMAT and take full advantage of the 3 attempts. With strategic preparation, getting into NMIMS won’t be hard.

Here is an NMIMS interview experience of a student who appeared in the year 2018. If you have got calls for both MBA-Core and MBA-HR, this might be helpful for you.

For the written ability test, you'll be given a case and asked to write your views in 10 minutes. For instance, her case was about making it mandatory to own a dog due to an increase in heart patients, and she needed to express her opinion on the matter.

During the interview, you'll be called in one by one to a separate room on a separate floor. The panel generally has 3 members. You should greet the interviewers and answer confidently when they ask you to tell them about yourself.

They might ask whether you are a fresher or working, and if you are in transit, like the student in the story, they might ask why you left your job. Be honest and explain your reasoning. They might also ask what you know about the company you left, and why you left it. Be sure to answer the questions as best as you can, and don't hesitate to ask them to repeat or clarify anything that you don't understand. They might ask you about your hometown, so it's a good idea to know a bit about its history.

When they ask you the reason why you want to pursue an MBA, make sure to have a solid answer. They might also ask you about your understanding of HR, so be prepared to answer that question as well. If you're aiming for MBA-HR, make sure you have a clear understanding of what it entails, as the interviewers might ask follow-up questions. In any case, it's essential to stay calm and composed throughout the interview, even if they ask a difficult question.

In conclusion, the interview experience can be nerve-wracking, but it's essential to stay confident and composed. Make sure to prepare thoroughly for your interview and be ready to answer any questions they might ask. The most important thing is to remain honest and articulate.

XIMB is a great option for Finance and Systems. Business Management is their flagship program. All major banks and IT companies recruit from the institute. The institute offers a high ROI. XIMB placement highlight of 2021 reports an average CTC of INR 15.51 LPA. and the highest CTC of INR 24 LPA.

NMIMS is good for Marketing or Sales. It has a well-established alumni base across FMGC majors.

Overall, XIMB is better. It offers an enviable campus experience in terms of academics, case-study-based learning, peer interaction, social life, sports, extra-curricular, fests.

IGNOU is best for distance learning MBA. IGNOU MBA course structure is pretty good. You will get to learn the basics first then the main concepts. The study materials are good and make the learning process smooth. IGNOU also has a better reputation.

Symbiosis Pune is also a good option for MBA. You can choose one of these two options based on fee structure and eligibility.
