Course Description

IIT Indore BTech Admissions 2023 are over. JoSAA has released the round 1 – 6 cutoff for IIT Indore. The BTech CSE Cutoff 2023 for IIT Indore remained 1 – 67 for General Category. IIT Indore offers BTech as its flagship program where admissions are granted as per JEE Advanced score followed by JoSAA counselling. JEE Main registrations are expected to start from November 2023 and the exam will be conducted in 2 sessions. Candidates having a valid JEE Main score need to register for JEE Advanced, where registration will commence in April 2024.

IIT Indore B.Tech Key Highlights

BTech at IIT Indore is a four years full-time program divided into 8 semesters and can be extended upto 7 years for General/OBC category and 8 years for SC/ST/PwD category.
The admissions to BTech are conducted twice a year, i.e, in the month of November and March.
Candidates are selected based on their score in JEE Advanced entrance exam. However, appearing for and qualifying JEE Mains with a valid score is a prerequisite for JEE Advanced.
The shortlisted candidates are further called for the counselling process conducted by JoSSA.
During the 2023 placement drive, the highest package stood at INR 68 LPA & the average package stood at INR 25 LPA.

IIT Indore B.Tech Eligibility Criteria

The aspirants of the BTech course in IIT Indore can apply only if they fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned below:

Candidates must have qualified their Higher Secondary Examination with Physics, Chemistry and Maths as main subjects.
The candidates who are appearing for their 10+2 level examination are also eligible for applying
Students must appear for and qualify JEE Advanced.

IIT Indore B.Tech Admission Process

The candidates for the BTech course will be selected on the basis of their performance in the JEE Advanced Examination.
The students first shortlisted based on the score of the entrance examination are invited to the counselling process conducted by the JoSAA.
Candidates are allotted seats according to their entrance rank in the choice filled institute.

IIT Indore BTech Program Details - Curriculum, Syllabus

IIT Indore provides the four years full-time BTech program to its students. There are five specializations namely Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Metallurgy Engineering and Materials Science.

The course examination takes place in 8 semesters. The papers of the first two semesters are the same for all the specializations.
The credit of the first and second semesters are 34 and 34/36 respectively.
The total course credit for every specialization is 191 credit
The weightage for the attendance is considered to be 10 out of 100 marks. Students with attendance above 80% will be awarded 10/10 marks.
The institution categorizes students into 5 categories, Category I-V, depending upon the credit earned by him/ her in each semester.

Program Structure

Duration: The BTech course is of four years, but the maximum limit of the years can be extended to seven years for the General and OBC Category, and to eight years for the SC / ST and PwD category. The candidate needs to pass all the subjects in order to get the degree.

Attendance: There are 10 marks allotted for attendance. Students having 80% or more attendance, are credited 10/10 marks. Students with attendance percentages of 50-80% get marks between 6.5-10 marks out of 10. Students with attendance percent less than 50% will not be allowed to sit for the end semester.

Change of Branch: Students choose a branch of B. Tech of their choice. after the completion of first year, the students with no non- credit earning grades and with CPI above 6.5 can apply for the branch change. The top 1% of the students can apply for changing their branch without any constraints. For the rest of the students, the eligibility for applying to the branch change is based on merit cum preference basis.

Examination: The students of the BTech course are evaluated twice, once in Mid Semester Examination and the other is the End Semester Examination. The minimum marks in the mid and end semester are 20% and 40% respectively. The maximum percentage is 40% and 60% respectively. The other evaluations like Term Paper, Home Assignment, viva, etc. these contained a maximum weightage of 40%. There are also Take Home and Open Book examinations taken by the institution.

Financial Assistance: IIT Indore offers financial aid to BE/BTech students on the basis of merit, category etc. The scholarships provided are:

NHFDC Scholarship: This scholarship is provided to eligible students with disabilities, out of which 30% are reserved for girl candidates. Read More
Merit cum Means Scholarships: Top 10% students are provided INR 3,000 per month provided their family income is less than INR 1 LPA. An amount of INR 2,000 per month is offered to candidates with family income between INR 1 LPA - INR 5 LPA.

In my opinion, IIT Indore is much better as compared it IIT Patna. You will also find a really good functional programming group at IIT Indore. It also has a number of ACM ICPC contests that are enriched into you right from your junior year. The senior-junior interaction is also pretty great considering CSE. Here is some more information regarding IIT Indore: Location: IIT Indore is based in the industrial capital of Madhya Pradesh. You will find a number of IT companies including those like TCS and Infosys which are building large campuses in Indore. The food here is really good too. CSE Department: The department at IIT Indore is excellent. It has helped students partake in many worldwide coding competitions and they have qualified thrice for the finals in ACM ICPC. This clearly proves how good the coding culture at the department is. Campus: With an area of 510 acres, you will find that the campus has all the necessary infrastructure and there will be no dearth of necessities there. IIT Patna has a hundred percent placement in the CSE branch with an average package of 16.76 LPA. The highest package received was around 40 LPA (on-campus). Similarly, IIT Bhubaneswar also holds a record of a hundred percent placement in the CSE branch with an overall average package of 11.44 LPA. IIT Bhubaneswar has 40 seats allotted for the course in total. According to the statistics of the year 2019, among all the students of Mechanical course, 83% were placed with a good package. The top companies which recruit students from the mechanical branch are Capgemini, HCl, IBM, Infosys, Tata Motors, Tata Powers, and so on. The closing rank for the Mechanical course for ISM Dhanbad through IIT-JEE Advanced was around 4719-12869, according to the statistics of 2019. There is a total of 119 seats for the course. You should choose the branch you are more interested in and the institute which offers the batter program for that branch. Metallurgical engineering is a sub-branch of Mechanical engineering, whereas Civil is a core branch and have more option for higher studies. However, the employment opportunities for both branches are almost the same. NIRF ranked IIT Bhubaneswar 17th in the engineering category. The department of Civil Engineering, the Scchool of Infrastructure at IIT Bhubaneswar have 8 laboratories well-equipped with modern facilities to carry out academic projects and research works. In 2019 the JEE Advanced closing cutoff for Civil Engineering was 7054-14844. According to the placement statistics, 89% of civil engineering students got placements in 2019. The average package for civil engineering was INR 11.51 LPA. Core companies that visited the campus for employing Civil Engineering students were HPCL, IOCL, L&T.
