Course Description

Kerala University M.Tech admission 2023 is ongoing. Admission to the M.Tech program is granted on the basis of GATE scores or entrance examination conducted by the university. The entrance test will be conducted from May 22 to May 26, 2023. Check Kerala University Admission 2023

Kerala University offers a full-time M.Tech program in Computer Science, Technology Management, Electronics & Communication (Optoelectronics & Optical Communications). There are 18 seats offered by the University, out of which there are 5 sponsored seats, there are 3 seats for SC/ ST and 10 seats for general quota. In order to be eligible for admission, candidates must hold a BE/BTech degree in the relevant field with at least 50% marks from a recognised university or institute.

Kerela University M.Tech Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility Criteria for Admission to M.Tech Program for various specailizations of M.Tech Program of Kerala University is as follows:

M.Tech Computer Science: A Bachelor Degree in Engineering/ Technology with at least 55% Marks in Computer Science and Engineering/ Information Technology/ Electronics Engineering/ Electric Engineering from a recognized University. 

M.Tech Technology Management (Future Studies):

  • Candidate should have a B.Tech Degree in any branch of Engineering with at least 55% Marks from a recognized University.
  • Admission to Non-Sponsored seats will be granted on the basis of GATE Score. Admission to Sponsored seats will be governed by AICTE Guidelines.
  • A Minimum of 2 years of work experience is also required for M.Tech Technology Management (Future Studies).
  • Age: Less than 45 Years.

M.Tech Electronics and Communication (Optoelectronics and Optical Communication): A Bachelor Degree in Engineering/ Technology with at least 55% Marks in Electronics/ Electrical and Electronics/ Electronics and Communication Engineering, Applied Electronics and Instrumentation or M.Sc Degree in Physics/ Applied Physics/ Electronics Science or equivalent.

Note: 5 Seats are reserved for sponsored candidates where the student should have a minimum Work Experience of 2 Years. 

Kerala University M.Tech Admission Criteria

Admission to the M.Tech program of Kerala Unversity will be granted on the basis of performance in the Entrance Exam.

For sponsored candidates, the ranking will be based on the following components:

Marks at Bachelor Level 10%
Work Experience 1% Per Year
Interview  10%

Also, in case of more than one student obtaining equal marks in the Entrance Examination, a student with more CGPA will be offered the seat. 

M.Tech Entrance Exam

The Entrance exam for Admission to M.Tech Program of Kerala University will consist of

  • 60 Objective Type Questions – 60 Marks
  • Descriptive Type Questions - 40 Marks

The MCQ part will consist of questions from Logical and Numerical Reasoning and the descriptive part will consist of 12 questions out of which 8 are to be attempted. Each Question is of 5 Marks. A negative marking of 0.25 will be done for each wrong entry. 

How to Apply for Kerala University M.Tech

Application Form for Admission to Kerela University will be filled online by visiting https://admissions.keralaUniversity.ac.in/ . To fill the application properly, follow the given steps:

  • Register by providing a valid Email, Phone Number and Password.
  • Fill all the details required in the application form i.e  name, date of birth, address, educational qualification, etc.
  • Submit to continue and pay the required application fees using Credit/ Debit Card or Net Banking or Challan.
  • Candiates are advised to keep a receipt of Application Form and Application fee for further reference.

Note: A candidate who do not belong to SC/ST category will be treated as General. In case of GATE qualified student, they must attach the copy of their hall ticket.

  • Attested copy of GATE score card.
  • Attested copies of Community and Income Certificate for OBC reservation.
  • Attested copies of Community Certificate and BPL Certificate for BPL reservation.
  • Attested copy of Disability certificate from the Medical Board of a Government Hospital for
  • Physically Handicapped reservation.
  • Experience Certificate

Ques. Is there an option for Multiple Applications in M.Tech program of Kerala University?

Ans.A candidate may apply for a maximum of three M.Tech. Programmes at a time.

Ques. What is the eligibility for relaxation available for SC/ST Category at Kerala University? 

Ans. Eligibility of Relaxation for candidates from SC/ST category shall be as follows
  • CGPA of 2.0 or above 4-points 
  • 3.5 or above in a 7-point scale
  • 5.0 or above in a 10-point scale
  • 50% or above in case of Bachelor Degrees which award marks.

Choice of optional subjects: The optional subject for the M.Tech, programme should be the same as the one, which the student has selected as Core Course for Graduation, or the main subject for Graduation conventionally recognized to be coming under the optional chosen. Getting a B.Tech degree certificate from Kerala University, might take around 3 months. But if it is urgent, you could submit the application form along with a request stating your urgency.

Firstly you need to apply for a provisional certificate. Once you get that, you can apply for the original degree certificate along with the copies of the provisional certificate, mark sheets, and challan (original) to the concerned section or COE.

After verification, you will get the degree certificate within 3-6 months. It will be delivered via registered post. 

This could sometimes vary as it depends on the person handling your college. If he wishes he could speed up the process.

There is no option for mercy pass at Kerala University. But you can get a mercy chance to qualify in their passed subjects.

This is the last chance given by the university to those who were unable to pass for the 3rd time.

The exam will be a regular one, tough enough as the usual standard of exams in Kerala University. The valuation is also strict, but here the cutoff mark is reduced to 30, instead of 40.

This creates problems if you are planning on applying for competitive examinations or higher studies. Curriculum followed by the university is theory-oriented, even for engineering branches. Kerala University needs to maintain the academic calendar in a timely manner.

Kerala University is comparably better than MG. It is better recognized in the industry. Other than this there are no such major differences between the two universities. The university offers decent academic sand placements. According to the recent highlights of Kerala University placements, students receive a median CTC of around INR 2.1 LPA.

As one of my friends was a student at University of Kerala, let me mention some of the facts you should keep in mind during your first year.

  • Stick to the syllabus and thoroughly read it. Mark the ones out of the syllabus, as attempting them can fetch you some marks.
  • Try to take part in extracurricular activities. Join NCC/NSS if you have an option.
  • Always try to be on good terms with the faculty members, as they control the internal exam marks. 
  • Accept the fact that results are not published on time.
  • Make sure you have a 90% attendance, as 5 marks are added to your result for it.
  • It is better if you refrain from student politics as they could be very time-consuming and distracting.
  • Do not rely on teachers to complete the syllabus, in the end, you have to study and complete it.

It is recommended that you get your degree from any private university. Though it will cost much, you will get enough exposure to mold your career in shape.

To get a percentage certificate from Kerala University, you will need to pay Rs. 500 at the cash counter. Also, buy a General Purpose form from counter 4 and fill it. Take a pass from the equity section. Go to your degree section and submit the challan and filled-out form. It will take around 7 days to get the percentage certificate.
