Karnataka State Open University is one of the premier distance universities in the country established in the year 1996. It is recognized by the University of Distance Education Council (DEC) by New Delhi. The Karnataka State Open University also known as KSOU offers undergraduate, graduate and diploma programs under different specializations that cater to the needs of the students. The university offers 4 programs at the undergraduate level and 5 programs at the postgraduate level.

KSOU is inviting applications for UG, PG, Diploma and Certificate courses admission 2021. The last date to apply is November 18, 2021 (without any late fees). The application fee is:

INR 300 for B.Com./MA/M.Com /PG Diploma /Diploma and Certificate Courses
INR 500 for B.Lib.I.Sc/M.Lib. I.Sc and M.Sc.Courses
INR 100 for MBA Courses

Key points for admission to Karnataka State Open University:

Candidates must fill in the Admission form online available on the official website of KSOU.
The minimum eligibility for the undergraduate programs is 10+2 or HSC or equivalent examination.
The minimum eligibility for postgraduate programs is qualifying a bachelor’s degree.
The minimum eligibility for Doctorate programs is qualifying master's degree.

Karnataka State Open University offers BA, B.Com, B.Ed. in 2 specializations, B.Sc. in IT and B.Lib.I.Sc program under the undergraduate level. The minimum education qualification or eligibility criteria for the program is qualifying 10+2 or HSC or equivalent examination in the relevant stream from a recognized board.

Candidates meeting the eligibility criteria must fill the application form online by visiting the official website of the university. Candidates along with this must submit the necessary academic documents and proofs for admission.

The college also offers Lateral entry admission for the second and third semester for undergraduate programs. The basic eligibility criteria for lateral entry admission is qualifying 10+2 in any stream in addition to 6 months/1-year course in IT or 10+2 with a 3 year diploma in IT from a recognized university.

The cutoff percentage for the program is determined either by the university or the college.
For SC/ST candidates, there is a 5% relaxation in the minimum required eligibility.

KSOU MA, M.Sc., M.Com. and MBA Admission 2023

Karnataka State Open University offers postgraduate courses as approved by the university grant commission. The university offers postgraduate programs of M.Com, MA and M.Sc. in 11 specializations each. The college also offers MBA program at the master’s level. The eligibility criterion for admission to the PG programs is done on the basis of the scores obtained in the 3-year bachelor degree or equivalent examination of the relevant stream qualified from a recognized university or college.

Karnataka State Open University M.Lib.I.Sc. and L.L.M Admission 2021

Karnataka State Open University also offers M.Lib.I.Sc. and L.L.M in the post-graduation level to all students through distance learning. The basic eligibility for admission to M.Lib.I.Sc. is qualifying B.Lib.I.Sc. from a recognized university with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks and more. Whereas, for admission to L.L.M. the candidate must have passed their Graduation or equivalent to law from any recognized university/ college or institution.

The college also offers Lateral entry to M.Sc. in the second and third semester. The basic eligibility for direct admission to 2nd semester is graduation degree with 4 semesters of GNIIT, whereas, for the third semester, the minimum eligibility is graduation and PGDCA /PGDIT from a university or equivalent or DOEACC "A" Level Certificate or B.E.(C.Sc./IT) or GNIIT or PGDCA from CAL-C.

The Karnataka State Open University also offers a Ph.D. in 10 specializations at the Doctorate level. The basic eligibility criteria for the program is qualifying either M.Phil. or Master’s degree in the relevant field with a minimum of 55% aggregate and more from a recognized university.

Ans. KSOU provides post-matric scholarships to the reserved category students. It also offers defence scholarships for students whose parents are army personnel.

KSOU is known to make a good effort in providing proper education to the students unable to join a regular program. But the quality of education provided by them will differ from any regular program. The student-teacher interaction is hampered along with the peer-to-peer relationship. Communicating directly with the teacher and students is much better than online lectures. This might be one of the reasons why distance education has very low credibility for job prospects. But for the students who are unable to join a regular course due to other priorities like a job or other responsibilities, attending online programs gives them an opportunity to learn about the subject. Karnataka State Open University will provide study materials and their online lectures will be of great help.

If you want to go for MNCs you have to start by joining smaller organizations and start-ups. Here you can have the chance of getting hired based on your knowledge and skills. Try to improve your writing skills, communication skills, aptitude skills, etc. Practice mock interviews, get familiar with all the current trends and topics. Prepare for questions like “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” etc. Improve your domain knowledge, practical knowledge, keep yourself updated and familiar with the recent trends in interviews. Learn from your peers and how they approach the interviews. More practice will increase your chances of getting a job.

Is it good to do a BBA from an open university run by a state government like KSOU and TNOU to get in a better college in the future for studying an MBA?

Joining an MBA college does not usually depend on a student graduating with a regular course or correspondence course. But if you are not from a regular course, you tend to miss a lot of experiences which are only possible in a college atmosphere. During your interview for admission in an MBA course, you will be asked why you opted for this rather than a regular college. You might have to put some more focus on extracurriculars as they will also come in handy during your selection. Your selection will only be considered if there are not many students from regular courses applying for MBA. It is a very rare situation, and you should not depend on it. It is suggested that you go for correspondence BBA or any graduate course. Join the full-time program and get familiar with the classroom environment. Symbiosis or Manipal is recommended for BBA as they are more reputed colleges than state Universities.
