Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) is inviting applications for admission to its PhD program for the academic session 2023-24 (July Session). Interested candidates can apply for PDEU PhD Admission 2023 by submitting their applications by June 01, 2023.

The admission window for PhD programs is open under the disciplines of Engineering, Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences and Management. The application fee for the PhD program is INR 700 and admission will be based on a written test followed by a personal interview conducted by the university. 

The PDEU offers its PhD admission seats under Regular PhD (Full-time), Sponsored Students (Full-time), Project Staff (Part-time), Locally & Professionally Employed Personnel (Part-time) and Sponsored Students (External Registration) (Part-time) categories. Check PDEU Admission 2023

PDEU PhD program is offered under 4 schools i.e. School of Technology, School of Petroleum Technology, School of Petroleum Management, and School of Liberal Studies. The basic eligibility criteria is to have a master’s degree in a relevant specialisation from a recognised university.

In order to be eligible for PhD admission at PDEU, candidates must fulfil the following requirements:

• For research in the areas of Engineering and Technology, a person must have an MTech or equivalent recognition from UGC/AICTE in the required areas.
• For research in interdisciplinary areas like petroleum engineering, solar engineering nuclear engineering and environmental study a person must have an MTech/ME/ MSc in technology or an equivalent degree from UGC AICTE in the required areas.
• For research in the field of science MSc or an equivalent degree from UGC is required
• For research in the field of Management MBA M E M tech A.C.A /AICWA/A.C.S or its equivalent as recognised by UGC/ AICTE.
• For research in areas related to liberal studies, a Master’s or an equivalent degree as per UGC is required.

PDEU PhD Admission Criteria 

Admission to PhD will be provided based on the performance of the candidate in the written test followed by the personal interview. 

• Written Aptitude Test (WAT) shall consist of 50% weightage on research methodology and 50% weightage on subject-specific questions. As a part of this, the question paper on Research Methodology will be 50 marks, each question will carry one mark. Subject-wise Entrance Test will be conducted, which consists of 100 questions, each carrying 1 mark.
• Candidates who clear the written test with at least 50% marks will be called for a personal interview/viva-voce.
• The admission merit list for the eligible candidates who qualified in the written test and appeared in PI will be based on 30% of Personal Interview (PI) score and 70% of the Entrance Test score.

• Make the payment of INR 700 through an online payment method.

PDEU Ph.D. Entrance Exam

In the written Aptitude Test 50% weighted would be given to the research methodology used and 50% weight would be with the subject-specific questions. 

The question paper for the research methodology would be of 50 marks each question carrying 1 mark. The entrance test would be conducted subject-wise each question carrying one mark.

Candidates to qualify a minimum of 50% in the entrance test would be eligible for the personal interview.

Next, the personal interview shall be conducted by a duly constituted committee where every student has to showcase and discuss his interest in a particular field of research through a presentation.

The following points should be kept in mind during the personal interview: 

• Research objective
• Research methodology
• Competence of the proposed research
• The candidate possess the competence of the research proposed
• Whether the university can undertake the candidates researched work
• Contribution to additional knowledge out of the proposed research

The merit list of the qualifying candidates would be based on 30% marks of the PI and 70% marks of the entrance test.

PDEU PhD Course Details 

At PDEU, the PhD program is offered under four major departments-

• School of Technology 
• School of Petroleum Technology 
• School of Petroleum Management 
• School of Liberal Studies

Mechanical Engineering has 7 sub-specializations i.e. Thermal Engineering, Thermal And Fluid Engineering, Thermal Systems Design, Design Engineering, Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering, Industrial Management and Entrepreneurship. 

PDEU Ph.D. Financial Assistance 

PDEU offers financial assistance facilities to full-time PhD programmers. 

• Merit-Based Fellowship: 

INR 25000/- per month up to first 2 years. 

INR 30000/- per month in 3rd year. 

• Merit-Based Teaching Assistantship: 

INR 10000/- per month.

PDEU Ph.D. Placements

PDEU offers a diverse placement opportunity with a lot of industries coming every year to the university. The highest package till now was offered by the ONGC of 19.2LPA. In all its areas including technology, oil sectors as well as liberal art sectors a plethora of candidates gets recruited by the most esteemed MNCs and corporations.

• SOT: The First campus placement in a Middle East country was offered to a student of Chemical Engineering by Protiviti, a global consulting firm at the BTech level. The package was for 16.6LPA and the student was posted in Abu Dhabi.
• SPT: This was the highest offer was Rs. 19.20 LPA. ONGC has offered it to 11 BTech Petroleum Engineering students.
• SPM: 100% Placements in MBA with a Salary of 18.4 LPA (in 2019) by GAIL.
• SLS: Cheek Bilgi a student of SLS is a full-time cinematographer at Bollywood. Students from SLS are receiving the renowned US Consulate General Scholarship consistently for the last 4 years.
