Among these three the best college will be AEC (Assam Engineering College) and here are some reasons to justify it.

  • AEC is completely an engineering college, but the other two are schools for engineering under their respective universities. AEC gets its funds from the state government and it is given solely for the purpose in the engineering field, but the other two institutes receive their funds from the central government and it gets divided among all the departments available in the university.
  • AEC is now a pioneer in the field of engineering as it has completed more than 60 years of its existence but the other two universities are very new in the field of engineering. It has also built a very strong alumni network within these 60 years of offering engineering courses.
  • As it is located in Guwahati, it has many advantages over NEHU and especially Assam University. It is located in Silchar and there are many connectivities and traveling problems due to which many companies don't visit the campus during placements. In 2020, placement drive it offered salary packages upto 10 LPA.
  • In AEC, the lab facilities available are very good and are much better in comparison to NEHU and Assam University.
  • In these 60 years of existence, AEC has established a very good reputation all over the country with its excellent academics and placements and most of the top scorers prefer to choose AEC over the other two to pursue their engineering.

Hence, if you're interested in pursuing engineering, then choosing AEC will be a very good option as this college has a very good reputation and experience in this field and offers very good facilities and placements to its students.

In Assam University, there is a particular formula that is used to calculate the SGPA of a student where the marks scored by the student and the total marks of the exam are taken into account. It is the average of the grade points of all the subjects and it is calculated on a scale of 10.

The formula for calculating the grade point is as follows.

Grade Point = (Marks obtained×10)/Full Marks

So, if you score 40 marks on a paper of 50 marks, then your grade point in this particular paper will be, 40 x 10/50 = 8.

After calculating the grade point of all the subjects, now we will have to add all these grade points and then divide that by the total number of subjects.

One of my friends studied at Assam University. According to him, the freshman year was a bit challenging. You would have to adapt yourself to new surroundings and a very different environment. Getting used to the hostel rooms, peers, food, etc.

  • The seniors here are very cooperative and helpful.
  • Although ragging is strictly prohibited, some seniors sometimes might behave mischievously.
  • The faculty is well experienced and qualified but never punctual.
  • The academics are terrific and well known for the same.
  • The second-year students are expected to organize events such as TechFest without any support from the faculty members.
  • The students put their best in these fests but do not receive any benefits in return.
  • The programming culture is absent in the university.
  • The practical classes are covered for formality purposes so as to conduct examinations. The students majorly manage their curriculum on their own.
  • Third-year was situated in a central university.
  • The students explore the opportunity to witness open election campaigns for the student council.

Coming to the positive side of the university, the workload after classes is minimal and you are left with enough time to acquire new skills in coding, gaming, etc. The internet speed is very high and it works to your advantage. You would certainly make friends with amazing people with whom you would make memories to cherish forever.

Both Assam University and IIIT Manipur are very reputed and popular institutes. Here is a brief overview of the two institutes.

Assam University:

  • Assam University is a central university and the technical department of this university has been functional since 2006. It is situated about 25 km away from Silchar and there are no problems traveling to the main campus.
  • The administration of this university is quite poor being a central university and there are many issues that are not being addressed yet.
  • There are very few hostels available and only 30-40% of the students get allotment in hostels.
  • There are internet facilities available but some services like fee payment are yet to be made online. And the results never get declared within 45 days of time.
  • The placements of this university are not very good as many companies don't prefer to visit the campus due to its location but there are many students who have received good offers from reputed companies through off-campus placement. The average CTC offered at campus placement is 1-2 LPA. And some students are also pursuing MS from top foreign universities.

IIIT Manipur:

  • IIIT Manipur is a newly built institute and it is situated in Heingang which is nearly 10 km away from the main city of Imphal. This institute now has 5 departments including physics and mathematics from pure sciences.
  • The first batch of this institute has passed out in 2019, so there are no such statistics about placements, but it has the Indian Institute tag so it will definitely attract some reputed companies to visit the campus especially from the IT sector. The average CTC offered is 5 LPA.
  • But in this college there have been some issues about ILP (Inner Line Permit), so keep this in mind before taking admission to this college.
  • IIIT Manipur has been very promising in sports and the students of this college have bagged various medals and awards in many intercollegiate competitions.

Hence, Assam University will be a good option in terms of academics and infrastructure but in terms of sports and placements, IIIT Manipur will be a better option as this institute will beat Assam University in terms of placements over the coming years. Scoring better marks is also easier at IIIT Manipal.

If you get any other better options from other NITs or IITs then go for it. Assam University is overall good considering the environment, infrastructure, and facilities. The CSE department is better among the others.

Assam University has a diverse student crowd. Success mainly depends on how well you know the subject you are pursuing, your skills, and how you prepare to shape your future. If you are hardworking enough the institute would not be a problem. If you need a more disciplined institute that will guide you in every way, then it might not be a good choice.

Choose the course you are interested in, as it will give you a comfort zone, once chosen the institute does not matter much.

  • It is good to go for the brand value of universities, as they provide various opportunities later on.
  • But you should not choose a branch only for the Institute.
  • If you have an area of interest, you can go to any college.
  • But it is better to opt for a course in a college which has a bit of a good reputation.
  • When you sit for internships or placements, being from a related branch is preferred.
  • You should keep all these in mind when you opt for any course anywhere.

If you are able to secure a seat in DTU, it should not be hard to get admission in a better college. So, you should try exploring other colleges preferably in the metros for the ease of networking and employment opportunities. Isolated colleges have their own flaws.

There is no such certain syllabus for written or entrance tests. If you are applying for a master’s, then go through your undergraduate syllabus thoroughly. Go through your higher secondary syllabus, if you are applying for graduation or integrated courses like fine arts, visual arts, performance arts, Computer Science, B.Vocal, B.Pharma, etc. For practical-based courses, you will need to practice too.
