Course Information

Course Description

NIT Rourkela BTech Admissions 2024 registrations are going on. The institute offers its flagship program i.e., BTech for a duration of 4 years. NIT Rourkela flagship BTech admission is based on the JEE Mains score followed by the JoSAA counselling. Since the application process for the BTech program is currently open, the aspirants can now apply online on jeemain.nta.nic.

Furthermore, NIT Rourkela BTech 2024 admissions will be based on JEE Mains 2024. JEE Mains is expected to take place in two phases, i.e., in the month of January and April. JEE Mains 2024 first attempt exam date is scheduled on the last week of January 2024 (tentative).

NIT Rourkela BTech is a 4 year UG program ranked 16th by the NIRF 2023 in its Engineering category. The program is specialized in 14 streams and has an academic session of approximately 17 weeks duration divided into two semesters.

NIT Rourkela B.Tech Eligibility Criteria

Aspiring candidates must have a Passed 10+2 or any relevant course with a minimum of 75% or be within the top 20 scores in the 12th class exam.
For SC/ST, the qualifying marks are 65%.
A valid score in JEE Mains followed by JoSAA centralized counseling.

NIT Rourkela B.Tech Admission Criteria

The selection to BTech program at NIT Rourkela are made on the basis of ranka secured by a candidate in the JEE Main entrance examination.
Seats are alloted after successful completion of JoSAA counselling process.

NIT Rourkela B.Tech Application Process

Fill up the e-application form on the NIT Rourkela website and upload all documents in the form.
The documents will be verified by the Institute officials. The official will inform students through email if there is an issue with the certificates of the students.
On successful completion of the Admission process, you will be generated a Roll No. You will be notified of your Roll No. through email, and instructions will be given regarding online classes and registration through the faculty advisor.
Each student will be assigned one Faculty Advisor who will guide you through the registration process.
Each student will be provided an Institute Email Id through their registered mail Id.
Online classes will be conducted online in the Microsoft Teams App till the situation normalizes.
Each student will be assigned a User-Id and Password through their mail.
Students need to attend all classes online in Microsoft Teams App instantly after they get their Roll No.

Duration: The B.Tech program is a four-year program. But if a student cannot cope with the workload the student may opt for a slow pace program in some cases.
The curricula for the B.Tech programs will be recommended by the Undergraduate program and evaluation committee (UGPEC).
The curricula followed in the first two semesters by the students of all disciplines shall be almost common.
If the number of For UR grades in a subject taught in the autumn or spring semester is significant, a department may offer a summer course.
Attendance: attending classes, participating in the continuous evaluation process and classroom discussions are essential components of academic programs.
Students are advised to attend all the classes without fail to have 100% attendance. Lack of attendance may lead to a reduction of grades in that semester.
Post-Matric scholarships (for SC-ST students) given by the Orissa government. And several scholarships are also provided for students studying in NIT Rourkela like TCS, Merit scholarship, NTS, Indian oil scholarship, ONGC scholarship, etc.

Ques. How is NIT Rourkela B.Tech?

Ans. NIT Rourkela B.Tech program is satisfactory. The course and education system is similar to other NIT’s. Most of the faculty members have completed their Ph.D. in their respective specializations, however, the institute lack teaching skills, as per the students’ reviews. Moreover, the classes are conducted on a regular basis with a lot of lab assignments, class assignments, and practicals. During the 2021 placement drive, B.Tech median salary ranged between INR 6 LPA to INR 6.85 LPA.

Ques. Is NIT Rourkela B.Tech credit-based or marks-based?

Ans. NIT Rourkela B.Tech follows a Choice-Based Credit Structure (CBCS). For each subject, students are assigned either 4, 3, 2, or 1 credit.

Ans. Yes, branch change at NIT Rourkela for the B.Tech program is possible if a student scores a minimum of 8.5 CGPA after completion of the first two semesters subject to fulfillment of other terms and conditions.

Ans. If a student fails to join NIT Rourkela B.Tech classes within a week of commencement of classes, he/ she will be deemed to have abandoned the program. But, a student may be granted leave according to the appropriate provisions in case of serious illness or a family calamity.

The alumni collaboration is widespread for both institutes. However, NIT Trichy has a well-experienced faculty. In terms of management of various societies, clubs in the campus, extra co-curricular, and cleanliness are all exceptionally approved of by the students. If anything, it is top-notch at NIT Trichy. NIT Rourkela cannot be compared with NIT Trichy when it comes to placements. The opportunities provided in NITT are tremendous and are far ahead of NIT Rourkela. I have a friend from NIT Calicut and he was able to provide some information regarding their M.Tech in Offshore Structure. Offshore structures are currently one of the most promising fields in the future along with transportation engineering. It requires thorough knowledge in subjects such as FEM, Mathematics, and mechanics to be a successful offshore engineer. Additionally, the offshore industry pays more than a normal Structural consultancy as the structures are highly compounded. A beginner Structural engineer may not get very good pay as they are in large numbers and currently supply is more than demand. As for NIT Calicut, it boasts of an outstanding Civil Department. However, the placement offered by the institute may not be that good. But you can manage to get jobs through off-campus placements. You can earn a lot in the field as you gain experience.

One of my friends studied at NIT Rourkela. According to him, the campus was really good and had many features that made it stand out among others. Here are some facts about it: They have a huge campus, the second largest in the country. The environment is clean and green, with all the necessary facilities found nearby the campus area. The food here is comparatively costly than any other college at its level. It will take a bit of time to ease up on the food if you are an outstation student. The academic pressure is not much. They only strictly monitor attendance. The students are required to maintain a 75% attendance to be able to sit for the exams. The faculty is average, they prefer students mug up theories than actually learn the content. Labs are tough and have regular evaluation. Here you will get a lot of exposure to extra curricular activities. Many clubs are present like dance, drama, music, photography, social service, varieties of coding, robotics, aerospace club, vehicle designing club and many more. These clubs teach you time management and enhance your skills. The main rourkela city is about 7 kms from the railway station which has constant auto services. Rourkela has many restaurants, pubs and other hangout zones. They also have Vaishnodevi temple which students visit as the trip includes trekking and great viewpoints.

One of my friends told me that these three institutes must be in this order like; IIIT A>>> NIT Bhopal>= NIT Rourkela. Although he was a student of NIT Rourkela. He stated that between these three, Rourkela and Bhopal are more or less equal. However, both of these institutes consist of some advantages and disadvantages as well. If NIT Bhopal is considered and compared with NIT Rourkela, then it must be said that NIT Bhopal's strength is a large batch size; IT+CSE. But the main advantage of NIT Bhopal is the location and nearby airport transport facilities that conceal all the advantages of this institute. For this reason, NIT Bhopal experiences big recruiters every year, and NIT Rourkela misses this entirely. This is the reason why NIT Bhopal is one step ahead of NIT Rourkela. One of my friends is a CSE student at NIT Rourkela. According to him the department is very decent. The classes were held regularly, sometimes having 5 tests a day including viva sessions. The faculty is highly experienced and cooperative. The campus is really beautiful, and one of the best in the country. The student crowd is diverse. They are also very competitive, which actually makes the educational environment engaging and better. Placements here are a bit mediocre overall, but the CSE department has always shown promising results. Everyone wants a good institute to study in which has great academics and also has great placements along with extracurricular activities. BITS Goa would be the better option here only if there’s no financial problem. NIT Rourkela is also one of the best NITs, but when it comes to CSE department BITS will take the lead here. BITS Pilani or the Goa campus would be more preferable over NIT Rourkela.
