Aligarh Muslim University: Pros and Cons

- The University boasts a 2500 acre plot with many amenities and departments all included. The extensive lawns and picturesque spots are a visual beauty. The buildings are also of exceptional architecture.
- The University has a peaceful environment overall. It facilitates research and reading.
- Cheap cost of living in the city and in the university. You can get everything for very less amount, laundry for 10₹ an article, haircuts for 60₹, free health centre for students etc.
Dislikes
- The conservative nature of the people here, it brings alot of restrictions to dressing and get going.
- Lack of proper administration in the hostel allotments. Hostel allotments are a hassle and require alot of political power. Proper allotment may take two years.
- Lack of fests and programmes. The only programmes that exists are conducted by student communities and there's nothing exciting happening.
Remarks :
The eligibility of the course is through AMU entrance examination. The cut off is at 50% mark. The application form, fees and dates are updated on the official website of AMU. There is reservation for OBC, SC/ST, Muslim, Distance, Specially Abled etc. The entrance exams take place usually in June/July and the syllabus is basic general knowledge, quantitative analysis, English, Indo-Islamic GK.
Course Curriculum Overview :
It's a research/hons degree and I want to continue my study of Psychology so that was an attracting feature. There is very less practical exposure with a lack of internships but for academic pursuits and research expeditions AMU provides good opportunities. Could incoopertate more assignment works and internship opportunities. The exams take place at the end of each semester.
Internships Opportunities :
No internships available within college. Only Post Graduate students, B.Tech, Nursing, Law, B.Ed students etc have internships. There are no internships provided by the college and there is no requirement either. However you can do internships on your own interest during vacations.
Placement Experience :
Campus Placement are available for end semester students. It's usually the PG students who can avail placements. But for UG students placements to teaching positions in private institutions are available. The average package is at 7LPA, with the highest at 10LPA. I plan to do post graduation and continue into a research.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
First year tuition fee is 9500, from second year onwards it's only 4990. There are no other fee requirements except hostel and mess fees. Fee structure is similar for all category students. Scholarships are provided by the alumni like the Sultan Jahan Scholarship and The Washington DC Scholarship. It's about 10000 per annum. Each department provides a scholarship amount of 250 per month to two students of each course based on a department scholarship examination. It's the only merit based university scholarship.
Campus Life :
There arent much fests except some conducted by some departments like the tech fest by B.Tech. The library is the second largest university library in Asia and has a wide collection of books and journals. Classrooms have fans and projectors. Each department has a seminar library. There's free wifi. University Sports Team selections happen year round and they play in inter University matches. There are many clubs like the film club, drama club, Eco club, Music club etc. Many student run clubs and study circles also exist.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostel accommodation is a hassle and allotment takes years. The rooms are not upto par. PG and Rooms are available for rent in near campus areas for an average 2000? per person per month rate. The mess food is decent and includes veg and non veg options. It's typical North Indian menu.
Faculty :
The faculty members have varying qualifications according to the departments. Alot of them are AMU alumnis and others have exceptional qualifications. Most of the faculty members are approachable and they will help you in your research papers and even be mentors. Interaction with teachers are very active.
Interview Experience :
The written test has English, Quantitative Analysis, General Knowledge and Indo-Islamic History as the topics. It's multiple choice questions without any negative marking. The admission takes place in three phases and is rank based. I prepared through YouTube videos on each topics. Its very easy to crack.

Placement Experience :
BA psychology students don't get a placement as you need a Master's in India to get a job in this field, but master's students do get placement into good workplaces such as Tulsi Healthcare or Mom's Beliefs. The employability in psychology from amity is high as the industry in some shape and size are always connected to amity. Amity requirement for placement is at least 6.5 CGPA, but it is important to note that you shouldn't depend on college placement as it is not guaranteed.

These subjects also help in government exam because some questions form these subjects also comes in exams. My all subjects are main and important by government exam's perspectives.

Placement Experience :
Students become eligible for placement as they gained the knowledge of the language and proficiency in speaking and writing it doesn't matter in which year you are in. The highest package till now is 10LPA in chinese language. My plan after degree is to purse my masters in abroad.
