Is PEC becoming IIT Chandigarh?
Posted On - May 1, 2021There’s no news of PEC becoming IIT Chandigarh, in recent future. Initially, PEC used to come under Panjab government. But now it takes admission through CCMT.
Also, Panjab already has an IIT, i.e. IIT Ropar. All states of India have only one IIT now. Although UP has two IITs, these IITs were established with a gap of around 40 years. So, there’s a slim chance of PEC becoming IIT Chandigarh, anytime soon.
No, PEC Chandigarh is not becoming IIT Chandigarh. But it was in CCMT counseling for M.Tech admission. Other institutes that participate in CCMT are NITs and the Indian Government-run IIITs.
Punjab Engineering College comes under Punjab Government. But now it is taking admission through the GATE exam. This makes it competing with NITs and IIITs in CCMT.
Punjab Engineering College may in the future turn into IIT Chandigarh. As a neighboring city, Mohali is an IT sector of both Punjab and Chandigarh. If it is done so, lots of opportunities will be open for students to develop. But till now, no announcement has been made by the government.
It is possible in the long future though that it will become one. It surely brings some great opportunities and areas for students to explore. But now the government has not made any plan to convert it into an IIT.
