Why are IIT Ropar and IIT Mandi preferred less as compared to PEC, CHANDIGARH?

Firstly, I refuse to believe that PEC is preferred to IITs like Mandi and Ropar. PEC has started improving its infrastructure of late and is yet to reach IIT standards. PEC has gained little fame just because of its location and its heritage. IIT Ropar and IIT Mandi are better in every other aspect.
- IIT Ropar and IIT Mandi have a rich research culture and students are involved in research work in diverse fields.
- Although IIT Ropar and Mandi infrastructure is lacking as compared to older IITs, I believe it is sufficient for the number of students these new IITs have.
- IIT Ropar and IIT Mandi have done well in MHRD rankings whereas PEC has coped poorly. IIT Mandi Overall ranking by NIRF is 43 out of 200 colleges in India in 2022 while PEC ranks 87.
- The JEE Main cutoff of PEC has been deteriorating subsequently over the years whereas that of IIT Ropar and IIT Mandi has risen thus proving that the latter is better than the former.
From all these points we can safely conclude that PEC has lost its reputation and standards due to poor administrative policies and thus is not preferred to new IITs.
Is PEC really preferred over IIT’s? I think it’s the other way around. So, here are some reasons why IIT Ropar or IIT Mandi is preferred:
- Peer Group: The students of IIT Ropar and IIT Mandi are the students who have secured under 5k ranks in the JEE Advanced AIR. The peer group in IITs will be better than that of PEC as they have the best students on their campus.
- Faculty: The faculty of IITs are the best and experienced teachers throughout the country.
- Brand Value: The brand value of IIT is definitely better than that of PEC. It has international recognition.
- Rank: MHRD has ranked both of the two colleges among the top colleges in India and is therefore considered as the best.
- Placements: The placements are exceptionally well in IITs. For the CSE branch, the average package is about 16 LPA, in electrical it is about 12 LPA and in the core branches like mechanical, it is around 8-9 LPA that is more than the average packages of PEC.
