In addition, it is important to have a good understanding of general knowledge, including current affairs. You don't need to know everything, but having a basic understanding of what is happening in the world can be useful. Furthermore, having an opinion about current events can be even more important than your knowledge of them.

Some XIMB interviews may also include philosophical questions, so it is helpful to have a philosophical bent of mind and be able to think critically about abstract concepts. This can help you to demonstrate your ability to think deeply and creatively.

During the interview, it is important to present yourself confidently, even if you don't know the answer to a question. Smile and be positive, as this can help you to build a good rapport with the interviewer. Remember that it's not just about what you know, but also how you present yourself and how well you can convince the interviewer of your suitability for the program.

One of my classmates is a final year candidate from NIT Jalandhar and he secured 99.48% percentile in CAT. According to him, his interview went like a rapid-fire round.

The below-mentioned points are based on his experience of the interview at XIMB:

  • He had applied for MBA-HRM and the WAT topic he was given was "Should migration be allowed in services?"
  • The interviewers at first asked him to tell a short detail about him, by asking "Tell us about yourself". For which his answers were, where he previously worked, where he belongs from, his graduation stream, hobbies, school, college, etc.
  • Then he was asked to give a short brief explanation of his school's name, like who was St. Stephen's as he had studied from St. Stephen's School and he tried to explain giving his best.
  • Luckily he did not forget his school principal's name even after years, as they asked him who was his school's principal.
  • Questions continued with what was the first program that he attended after he had joined the organization and answering that he explained his experiences of induction and orientation.
  • Further, they asked the difference between Induction and Orientation, he successfully described both, focusing on the orientation part mostly.
  • He tried to explain in detail his domain and the work he did in his organization as he was asked to.
  • Later on, they raised the question that why he does not want to do MBA in HR as he was pretty amazing in his work, and to answer this, he told them about his earlier real-life work experiences, although they tried to further scoop out questions but were satisfied with his answers.
  • They tried to trick him as he tried to answer their question "Who was Arundhati Bhattacharya", but he successfully stuck to the correct answer.
  • He was further asked to name females who were holding similar positions like Arundhati Bhattacharya. He took a while to answer this one but tried to make up the answer by mentioning the name of one of the few female entrepreneurs that he looked up to, so he came up with the founder of Limestone, Suchi Mukherjee.
  • Some of the basic questions were asked at the end finally, like his extra-curricular achievements, where else he had applied for the HR course, what will he prefer if he gets selected in NMIMS and XIMB, for which his answer was XIMB and they asked him the reason he wants to join XIMB, where he tried to explain the course structure, conclaves, and conferences.

The interviewers mainly look for candidates who are positive and confident in nature and have the enthusiasm to learn and adapt to any situation easily.
