My brother recently completed his 1st year at NIT Raipur as a hosteller. As per his honest opinion, the hostel and mess facilities are neither very bad nor very good. The facilities provided are average, here’s why.

Hostel rooms: 

• There are a total of 4 hostels for 1st-year students, namely A, B, D & F. 
• You will be allotted room solely on the basis of CRL of JEE Main. 
• Hostels A and B are 2 seater hostels that house about 100 students per hostel while D and F have 3 seater rooms with a capacity of 120 students per hostel.
• Only 375 boys from 1st year will be eligible for getting a hostel room, out of which 25% should be from home state and 75% will be from other states. 
• If you still didn’t get one, then you’ll have to manage outside (PG, private hostels).

Hostel environment: 

• You are lucky if you get Hostel A and B as they are quite good with open spaces and trees inside. 
• On the other hand, Hostels D and F are mostly packed with only rooms and rooms. However, you have a badminton court in each hostel.

Mess:

• Food is just fine and you will get used to it after some time. Some days you’ll get tasty food and some days, just eatable! 
• However, breakfast will never disappoint you with tasty items all the 7 days which includes Idli, Sandwich, Chole Bhature, etc.

Hostel closing rank: 

JEE Main rank is the only criteria that will get you a room allotted. Here are the average closing ranks for 1st round.

Overall, the hostels are good to stay and definitely better than outside PGs and hostels. Considering the nominal fees, it is fine. At the end of the day, hostel life is all about learning and enjoying yourself with your friends!
