Most people will advise you to choose the university with a better brand name. But the university name can only help you a bit in your career. You need to work hard to do well. If your primary goal is to learn, you can do it from any institute be it CU, or WBSU.

About - CU & WBSU:

• CU colleges were segregated by the government in North and South as it failed to conduct various activities due to its huge student crowd. The northern part is known as WBSU. 
• Only colleges were segregated not the faculties. So, it is wrong to perceive that the educational standard at WBSU is not as good as CU. 
• Both CU and WBSU follow the CBCS system but WBSU has the updated version. It has also started their convocation so you will get your certificate and result in time.

For Undergraduate Level: 

If you are an undergraduate student, you should choose a college near your home, which could provide you with quality time to study. Students could obtain a placement opportunity in some selected colleges of both CU and WBSU.

For Postgraduate Level:

If you are a PG student, then the choice is totally up to you. 

• It is undeniable as the number of students is less in WBSU, students can get good care for their studies there. The typical batch strength for PG courses at WBSU is 60-70, whereas it is around 150 for CU.
• Communication at Calcutta university is better. Although the government already has many initiatives for improving the transportation problem of WBSU. 
• You will get a good placement opportunity from CU at the PG level. 

If you want a brand name, you could take admission at CU; otherwise, give a second thought. Recently WBSU has also achieved many things. You should also keep in mind that ultimately your hard work will pay off and not the University name
