Professor Amarjeet Singh, Centre For North East Studies and Policy Research (CNESPR) of JMI and Komol Singha, Dept. of Economics of Sikkim University jointly edited a book, ‘Understanding Urbanisation in Northeast India: Issues and Challenges’. This book has been published by Routledge (Taylor Francis Group, Oxon and New York).
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) along with Sikkim University launched the book in 2020. The book elaborates on urbanisation patterns observed in Northeast India, thereby highlighting its impact on infrastructure, socio-economic conditions and nature of this region.
About the Book
Understanding Urbanisation in Northeast India: Issues and Challenges, a compilation of 14 essays critically analyses issues pertaining to smart cities, urban congestion, water and waste management, street vending and frontier urbanism.
The idea of editing this book is an outcome of a joint seminar held by JMI and Sikkim University at the latter’s campus in 2018. This Indian Council of Social Science Research funded seminar was attended by eminent teachers, urban planners and students alike.
Purpose of the Book
The essays in the book discuss relevant issues of urbanisation in hilly terrains. This in a way allows readers to ideate depths of these problems beyond urbanisation trends and patterns.
The book stands out as a perfect handbook of urban studies. Thus, helping readers to create measures for tackling urban issues of India in the bigger picture.
