New Delhi: One of the leading institutes of India, IIT Roorkee has recently installed 1.66 PFLOPS Supercomputing Infrastructure under the name of PARAM Ganga on the campus ground as a part of its collaboration with CDAC.
As per the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, the supercomputers will help accelerate the research and development of the institute and offer computational power to the institute community.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Development in Advanced Computing(CDAC) on March 07, 2022, the institute will offer a state-of-the-art supercomputing facility to students on campus.
Referring to the installments of a supercomputer, the IIT Roorkee officials stated that the facility was inaugurated by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.
The critical components of the supercomputers, such as motherboards for servers, Direct Contact Liquid Cooling Data Centres are manufactured in India. The computers will be used for various research purposes in various domains of science and engineering.

Talking about the facility, BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Roorkee said, "IIT Roorkee will carry out advanced research and capacity building using this supercomputing infrastructure developed under NSM".
Expressing his gratitude, he said, '`I am happy to see that the critical components of PARAM Ganga, such as motherboards for compute nodes and Direct Contact Liquid Cooling Data Centres, are manufactured in India as per the Government of India initiative of Atmanirbhar Bharat ''
Adding to the statement, Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee informed that the National Supercomputing Mission was launched in India in 2015. The mission aims to offer the latest facilities in the field of research and education.
