New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore has officially kickstarted the IPM Social Internship for the academic session 2022-2023 on Tuesday.
Both Professor Shruti Tewari (Chair of IPM), and Professor Himanshu Rai(Director of IIM Indore), attended the occasion. The IPM program offers a number of opportunities to their participants to grow their social consciousness, one of which is the 6–8 week social internship that they do by following their second year.
According to IIM Indore, participants in the IPM Social internship engage closely with numerous government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), corporate social responsibility departments, and research centres.
The social internship for the 122 participants in the IPM 2021 batch who chose campus placements will happen between April and May 2023. Through this internship, the participants will get the essential exposure to become socially conscious and contribute constructively to society.
During his inaugural address, Prof. Himanshu Rai discussed five wicked problems the country is dealing with, including income and gender disparity, problems in urban and rural areas, a lack of environmental conservation methods, and a lack of entrepreneurial spirit among young people. Additionally, he discussed many steps that the institute had taken to resolve these challenges.
In order to fully experience and examine the realities of their internships, Prof. Shruti Tewari urged the batch to remain open-minded and asked them to make an effort to step outside of their comfort zone and focus on their goals.
This social internship will assist the students in discovering their life's purpose, their areas of passion, and how they can influence both their own life and society, she stated.
IIM Indore's IPM program, which was introduced in 2011, sought to develop managers who were socially responsible and culturally aware. The social placement program serves the dual purposes of giving students practical job experience in a social setting and allowing them to put their interdisciplinary knowledge to use in collaborating with other organisations to solve real-life social problems.
The Social Internship Programme was prompted by the students and executed by an elected student body called the Social Placement Committee.
With 127 offers in total for the 122 students who choose the campus placement process, the batch had 100% placements.Around 72% of the total offers come from the CSR sector, while 22% of offers, which are first from social impact companies to participate in the program, come from the CSR sector. Following research institutions & think tanks, NGOs, and social incubators as the third most popular sector.
The majority of the roles available were from the fields of field research, corporate communications, marketing, data analysis, and research & insights. However, there were more roles provided this year in the fields of finance & investment and impact measurement, increasing the range of experiences for the students.
This year, a total of 33 recruitment companies participated in the program, with 52% of them being first-time recruiters. Several well-known CSR employers included Capgemini, TCS, JM Financial, Tata, and Biocon. The prominent social incubators that took part were Villgro Innovations Foundation, NSRCEL from IIM Bangalore, and CIIE.CO from IIM Ahmedabad.
The cohort of research organisations and think tanks comprised among others, PRS Legislative Research, FemLab.Co, and Institute of Chinese Studies. The major NGOs that took part were Magic Bus India Foundation, SEWA International, and Room to Read.
