New Delhi: According to a notification issued by Gauhati University, the PhD course price has increased for the fields of arts, law, and fine arts to INR 15,000 and for fields of science, technology, medicine, commerce, and management to INR 25,000. The prices have also been increased for MPhil and DSc/D Litt courses.
As per Gauhati University, for PhD, MPhil, and DSc/D Litt courses, the university has increased the entrance, registration, and other costs for the upcoming academic session. Students who wish to pursue the doctoral program in the fields of arts, law, and fine arts will now have to pay INR 15,000 as a course fee.
Additionally, the MPhil admission fee for the arts, law and fine arts has increased to INR 25,000, according to the announcement. The cost has increased to INR 30,000 for science and technology, medicine, business, and management for all candidates.
The government has once more raised the monthly tuition for PhD programmes, this time to INR 800 for PhDs in the arts and INR 1000 for PhDs in the sciences. The charge for submitting a PhD thesis has increased to INR 8,000, and the fee for submitting an MPhil dissertation has increased to INR 3,500.
Informing about the fee hike, the official notice reads, "Pursuant upon the resolution of the Research Council meeting held on September 29, 2022 and pending approval of the Executive Council, this is to inform you that all concerned PhD, MPhil, DSc and professional fee has been increased".
In addition to raising the charge for the guideship application, the university has also raised the costs for viva-voces, extensions, the publication of theses, and application forms. A portion of the university's students appeared to be upset by the recent fee increase and criticised the administrators' choice.
