The current situation has halted economic activities nationwide which has resulted in enormous changes in the economy. Due to the rising uncertainty and downsizing in the industry, the placements of educational institutions have been impacted.
Higher educational institutions in Kashmir have been severely affected due to the COVID-19 as it is evident that the institutions in the UT had very low placements during the lockdown.
However, research, educational, and software companies are now showing some promise in online recruitments as the sectors are unlocking.
As per the officials of placement of universities and other educational institutes of the valley, the lockdown period was very bad in regards to the placements.
The placement in-charges of universities and other educational institutes of the valley say that the period of lockdown was very bad in terms of placements.
“Man big brands used to come to our university in tourism, automobiles and banking sectors but since the lockdown, the corporates are not showing any interest. Our known brands are not responding and we are still waiting,” said Dr Zia-ul-Haq, placement officer of the Central University of Kashmir.
The placement officer also mentioned that as many organizations are laying people off, chances of campus placements are futuristic as businesses can only recruit when the economy improves.
At the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar, the month of June has shown some improvement in terms of placement as a student was placed in the first week of June. The institute also had one placement during the lockdown period.
“The things had really slowed down during lockdown but now they are going better. A research-based company did online recruitment of five students recently. Five to six more companies are in the pipeline and will announce their results in a week’s time,” said Dr. Obbu Chandra Sekhar, head of the Training and Placement Department at NIT Srinagar.
