There are a lot of similarities between the two competitive examinations- COMEDK and KCET, which lets you get a seat in engineering or medical examinations. Both the exams are state level examinations.

How is COMEDK UGET different from KCET?

For getting admission into the private colleges under COMEDK list, students need to appear for COMEDK UGET. Students belonging to outside states can get educational access in Karnataka by appearing for this examination due to less stringent rules. Competition level is usually lower in case of COMEDK UGET as compared to KCET.

However, the fees for the colleges are a bit high that goes up to around 1,50,000 INR, which makes it a costly affair when compared to government institutes. Students from other states can opt for COMEDK UGET test if they are willing to afford the fees and other additional fees of the college.

The colleges that accept COMEDK UGET scores are Acharya Institute of Technology, Acharya's NRV School of Architecture, A.C.S College of Engineering, Alpha College of Engineering, Amruta Institute of Engineering and Management Sciences, Alva's Institute of Engineering & Technology, AMC Engineering College, and so on.

Karnataka CET Specifications

What is KCET?

KCET is conducted by the Karnataka government, the Examination Authority. If you want admission to any government colleges (UVCE) or government aided courses (Electronics and Communications) in Karnataka you need to clear this exam. The standard course fee for colleges is 36,000 INR for 2 years. The examination is conducted mainly for the technical courses. KCET 2020 postponed due to COVID-19. Check Exam Dates

For students from outside the state of Karnataka, admission to government colleges can be a bit strict. The outside state students need to have a college or schooling period of at least 8 years in any educational institute of Karnataka or their parents must have studied in the state institute. When it comes to getting admission into the colleges, getting through KCET is considered more difficult as compared to COMEDK. One with a higher rank in the exam can attain seats in good colleges in BMSCE has ECE branch with low fees like 18,000 INR per year.

PESU also considers students from KCET examination. Some of the other colleges accepting KCET are BMSC, M.S Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore Institute of Technology, R N S Institute of Technology, Siddaganga Institute of Technology, National Institute of Engineering, and so on.

COMEDK UGET KCET
The process starts with registration of the candidate followed by part payment of the tuition fee. Then the students select the colleges and mock seats are allocated. After the whole process is completed, the document verification is done at last. The students have to verify their documents prior to the counselling session and registration. Once the verification is done, the students are able to fill in their choice of courses that is followed by seat allocation. Then the students pay off the admission fee.

Before appearing for any of the exams, candidates are advised to decide on the branch and college one needs to get into and take mock tests for practice. Since the difficulty level of KCET is high, non-qualification in KCET doesn’t mean doors for COMEDK have also closed.

The level of scoring is similar for both the examinations. The set contains 60 questions that needs to be answered in 70 minutes with similar difficulty levels. Both exams have no negative marking. The Karnataka PU syllabus needs to be followed as a part of preparation. Both of these examinations require a similar level of preparations. The only difference in the pattern is in the marking scheme. KCET considers 12th score for finalizing the ranks. However, in the case of COMEDK, the ranking is solely dependent on scores of the examination.

Thus, if a candidate satisfies criteria for both the examinations, appearing for both COMEDK UGET and KCET will provide a lot of exposure and flexibility in attempting papers.
