Answer:

From the reading and listening contexts, it can be stated that the discussion is about whether or not the dinosaurs fall under the endotherms group. While the author of the reading passage stated that there are testimonies that support it. The professor of the recording completely disagrees with it and places his doubts.

Firstly, the author of the reading passage has claimed that fossils of dinosaurs were found in the Polar Regions which were extremely cold and only endotherms could live there as they could balance with warm body temperatures. But the lecturer debated on this statement saying during the time that has been mentioned, the Polar Regions had warm temperatures and therefore non-endotherms could also reside there. She in fact has further added that even during the chilly times, the animals would have just moved to another place or hibernated.

Secondly, another reason for the reading passage’s author to state that the dinosaurs were endotherms is because of the formation of their legs. But the professor of the recording has stated that the reason behind the dinosaur’s legs underneath their bodies is to support their massive weight. She further added that their legs added to the humongous weights they had and it was more of an advantage.

Finally, there has been a connection between dinosaurs and bone structures raised by the author. The bones of the dinosaurs are stated to have Haversian canals which allowed them to grow big sizes and that are also an additional feature of endotherms. The professor has added to a disagreement that dinosaur bones have shown testimonies of growth rings, to validate the point. She added that this has already defined how dinosaurs grew in spurts and that non-endotherms had this characteristic.
