Starting a business relies on various factors like land, labor, capital, and entrepreneur. And according to the author, deciding and investing in these factors involve lots of strategies and plans. Thus, it creates problems for the businessman. Therefore, the author insists on buying a franchise because that provides a kind of support and help to the new investors and businessmen in the field. And also, the problem of allocation of resources by the new businessman gets eliminated very easily and effortlessly through this type of business. The author claims that the franchising company already establishes and specifies its suppliers. So, it will reduce any problem for the people coming to the business fields. While the professor then criticizes by saying that the already approved suppliers might bluff the new businessmen. She describes it as reducing the extent of the opportunities for the franchise owners. Those owners shall be bound to buy from the prescribed suppliers only. This will prevent the franchise owners to work better and effectively than the established system. She emphasized the fact that even if better resources and goods are available in the market, then the franchise owner could not see and use them because they shall be wearing the blinds of the already approved supplies.

Secondly, the author claims that investing in the already established well - off company would always be beneficial for the franchise owner. Buying a franchise means having already existing strategies and marketing plans. This would entail better profits without any ascertain loss in the business even in the beginning. The author also points out the fact that buying a franchise would benefit the franchise owner in terms of advertisement and promotions. The new person in the field would not have to work on everything from the scratch. The promotions and advertising would be more affordable and acceptable for the already existing sophisticated company. The professor, in contrast, claims that the franchise owners are bound to pay at least six percent of their total sales for advertising and promotion purposes. The fact she puts forward, she argues it to be convincing enough criticizing the claims of the author. Also, she puts forward her views on the profit gained through the advertisement as in that shall be quite less for the franchise owner if done indirectly through the parent company and vice – versa. Therefore, the professor contends that the franchise owner will have more profit if he/she will pay directly for the advertisement for their business.

Thirdly and finally, the author claims on the amount of the risk involved in starting a fresh business comparable to buying a franchise. The author argues that most of the time people who invest heavily and start a new business, face great loss in the beginning due to lack of knowledge, information, and the problem of allocation of resources. According to the author, all these drawbacks and problems could easily be eliminated by starting a business by buying a franchise of any company that is very well established and is touching heights. While the professor casts doubt on this very assertion of the author. She claims that buying a franchise could also possess the same or more amount of risk as starting a new business. According to her buying a franchise is not the only less – risky option to start any business. Risks are there in every field of the business ground. Thus, diverting or deviating the knowledge into the companies of the independent operators might be a loss for the person investing in the franchise of the same parent company.
