Many people welcome the opening of shopping areas near their homes. On the other hand, some people are strongly opposed to the construction of such facilities. If the opening of a large shopping center in your neighborhood was announced, would you support or oppose its construction? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

Sample answer:

Building a shopping mall in our locality will definitely leave several impacts on the people residing there. On a personal note, I believe there will be more negative impacts and I oppose this plan because of two reasons. I will explain my reasons in the following essay.

Also, Check:

First of all, a shopping mall may cause harm to a number of small local businesses that may shut down. It will cause an unemployment problem in our area. The shopping mall will definitely employ new employees from our locality, but I believe the ratio of lost jobs will be higher in number. For example, once a shopping mall opened in my current location and I had seen a number of store Shopping malls o relocate or went to complete closure. These small retailers and shop owners are not that rich to shift to another town – so most of them shifted to other professions. As teenagers are mainly hired for shopping malls, a number of senior employees will become unemployed.

Secondly, the newly built shopping malls often result in urban sprawls and it reduces the quality of life of the people in the area it is situated. Small local stores are generally located in the city center, so, customers can walk to local stores. But the shopping malls are mostly built on the outskirts of that town, so, it is necessary to take their cars to shopping malls. Once a mall achieves success, other retailers will open nearby which will also require people to drive. I think walking to the shops is a very healthy habit for life. Plus it is not a smart idea to drive to purchase a small thing. My experience is pretty relatable here as a shopping mall opened here, and my favorite bookstore was closed because it was unable to compete with the store situated in the malls. I feel even worse to drive an hour to the mall to purchase the book as well.

To conclude, I strongly oppose the idea of the construction of a shopping mall in my hometown because it can cause permanent to cease too many small businesses and increase the fuel cost along with worsening our lives.
