Rembrandt is the best known Dutch painter of the 17th century. There are, however, questions on whether he really painted any of Rembrandt's paintings. The portrait of an elderly woman in the White Bonnet is one of the most important paintings. Because of its theme, Rembrandt has been attributed to the painting and indeed the depiction of Rembrandt's face is quite similar to the portrait of the woman. But painting difficulties do suggest that it may not be Rembrandt's work. First, the way the woman is clothed in the portrait is somewhat contradictory. The waistcoat has a luxury fur neck that no servant can afford, yet the waistcoat it is wearing is a white linen cap. Rembrandt, who was known for his attention to the accuracy of the clothes of his subjects, would not be responsible for such incoherence. Second, Rembrandt was a master of light and shadow, but in this painting, these elements did not fit together. The face appears to be illuminated by the light from below. But the dark collar under the mask absorbs light instead of reflecting it. Then part of the face should appear in the shadow—it doesn't look like that. It was never Rembrandt who made such a mistake.

Finally, a look at the back reveals that it was drawn on a picture. Multi-piece wood panel stuck together. While Rembrandt has sometimes been lacquered on wooden panels, no Rembrandt painting uses a panel so glued together from a number of wooden pieces. That's why the painting was taken from Rembrandt's official catalog in the 1930s.

Professor: All you've read about the Portrait of the Elderly Woman is true in the White Bonnet. But a panel of experts has recently found that Rembrandt's work was in fact a thorough re-examination of the painting. Why here and why here. At first the fur necklace. X-rays and paint analysis showed that the fur-collar was not used in the original drawing. A hundred years after the painting was made, the collar of the fur was painted over the top of the original painting.

Why is it that way? Someone actually tried to increase the painting's appeal so that it appeared like a formal portrait of an aristocratic woman.

Second, the so-called error of light and shadow. The original painting could be seen before the painting of the added fur necklace was removed. In the original painting, the woman wears a simple necklace of light-colored tissue. The light-colored fabric of this collar represents the light that illuminates the woman's face. There is no partial shadow on your forehead. Light and shadow are therefore very realistic in the original painting, and exactly as Rembrandt would have expected of us. Eventually, the wooden tray. The wooden plate was also extended with extra bits of wood glued to the side and to the top when the fur collar was added to make the painting larger—and more valuable. Turns out. First of all, the reading states that the painting is incoherent; since Rembrandt was so attentive to specifics, he would never make such a mistake. The professor, however, refutes the claim that the original painting has been altered to enhance its value; there is no fur collar in the initial piece. Secondly, the reading reveals that this painting has a flaw in relation to light and shadow. This mistake will never be made again by Rembrandt. This mistake is due to the change made in the original painting. In the end, it states that the painting was drawn on a panel of various pieces of wood and that no other panels use Rembrandt's painting. These different woods were introduced later, and the original painting used a single piece of wood used for other Rembrandt walls. The professor discusses that. At the end of the narration, it seems that Elderly Woman was drawn by Rembrandt in the White Bonnet, although the professors disagreed.
