Tata Institute of Social Science National Entrance Test (TISSNET) is a computer-based test that will be held on 12 January 2020. It will be conducted in 39 centers located in different parts of the country.

There are a total of 100 questions in TISSNET. The exam paper consists of three sections which are explained below:

TISSNET Preparation Tips

TISSNET Preparation is different from other MBA exam preparations. The paper can be split into three parts: concept-driven, practice intensive and environment-sensitive. Mathematics & select areas of English Language Proficiency are concept-driven and it is suggested that you brush up your fundamentals in these areas to develop the required competence.

Logical Reasoning and select areas of English Language Proficiency are practice intensive and it is recommended that you practice across a good number of similar questions to build desired comfort levels.

The General Awareness section in TISSNET 2020 is environment-sensitive and demands you to prepare both current and static components of awareness.

Following is a section-wise preparation strategy with specific mention of thrust areas in each section: -

1. General Awareness

This section poses a challenge to the test taker on account of its vastness; just about every event seems to qualify from a test perspective. However, understanding the priority areas in the past could help to develop a more convergent approach.

Topics covered – History, culture, politics, geography, sports, business, economic trend, literature, art, current affairs regarding famous issues in the country and around the world, international economics, Indian constitution, and various acts.

Preparation tips –

• Newspapers like The Hindu, The Indian Express should be read thoroughly by the candidate on a daily basis.
• The candidate must watch documentaries of National Geographic channel, Al-Jazeera, etc. on Youtube or through some other medium in order to cover areas like foreign history, international politics and economic trend.
• Candidate should also read magazines like Frontline, Competition Success Review, Yojna, etc to keep himself or herself abreast with the current affairs, recent issues, literature, art, government policies, sports, Indian constitution and acts etc.
• Candidate may also go through articles that are posted on a few credible blogs in order to know the opinion and nitty-gritty of the corresponding issue.

2. English Proficiency

Topics covered – Reading comprehension passages, Idioms, Phrasal verbs, Sentence correction, completion and formation, choose the pair, spelling errors, synonyms, antonyms, analogous situations.

Preparation tips –

• Daily reading of the aforementioned newspapers is a must. The candidate should mandatorily read the front page, editorial, international news and business trend sections of the newspaper. Candidate should read the aforementioned magazines as well.
• Candidate can hone the grammatical skills by reading and practicing with books written by Raymond Murphy, Martin Hewings, Wren and Martin.
• Other than grammatical aspects, a candidate must develop a habit of reading books related to different subjects viz. Philosophy, Psychology, Science, Fiction, Factual, History, etc. This helps candidate in reading and comprehending any type of content easily.

3. Maths and Logical Reasoning

Conventional preparation of this section demands comfort levels in the modules of Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Modern Maths.

Topics covered – Ratio and Proportion, Speed, time and distance, Linear equations, Geometry, Functions, Graphs, Mensuration, Probability, Number theory, Algebra, Heights and distance, Permutations and combinations, LCM and HCF, Statistics, patterns in Number sets, Conclusions and Relationships.

Preparation tips –

• Candidate can go through the NCERT mathematics books of class X and XI. They are sufficient to cover the above topics.
• For logical reasoning, the tips stated before are sufficient. Other than that, candidate can practice from books of verbal and non-verbal reasoning.
