New Delhi: Dental Council of India (DCI) has recently approved the addition of 15 admission seats for MDS program in five disciplines at Government Dental Colleges in Vijayawada. The colleges will start the admission for these additional seats from the academic session 2023-24.
Informing about the approval, the DCI has issued a letter to the principal of GDCH, Union Health Ministry (Dental Education). This news comes as a relief for postgraduate dental aspirants who wish to apply for admission to MDS program at government medical colleges of Andhra Pradesh.
As per the officials, the three MDS seats are added in each department of Orthodontia, Prosthodontics, Pedodontics, Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology in speciality courses which include Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Oral Microbiology, Oral Medicine and Radiology, etc.
Additionally, seats have been added in MDS in Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics and Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry. Earlier, the colleges had nine admissions seats for the MDS program since 2010.
Speaking on this occasion, the Principal of Government Dental College, Dr Kolasani Srinivasa Rao expressed his gratitude to Principal Secretary of Health MT Krishna Babu and the Director of Medical Education (DME), Dr Vindo Kumar for this approval.
In his speech, he shared, "On behalf of the government, the DME has promised to provide equipment, including dental chairs and machinery. Currently, we are treating 300 outpatients daily. With 15 more MDS seats being allocated, we will be able to treat 150 additional patients every day".
He further thanked the members of Dental Council, Mr Mehboob Sheikh and Dr Satish Kumar Reddy for their services and help in the entire process. Dr Mehabbod Shaik informed that there are now 24 PG admission seats available at the college for the upcoming academic session.
These seats will allow students to pursue MDS in government colleges in the state and provide relief to those who had to get admission to private medical colleges. 50% of seats will be available for the economic and social development of BC, SC, ST and minority students.
