There is nothing called instrumentation engineering. The students usually study the syllabus of the electronic branch that includes learning low-level languages along with the complete command of them.

  • There is a very high demand for highly skilled engineers who know the top programming languages like TopCoder, GitHub, and many more.
  • Learning these languages totally depends upon the person that they can do without going to college.
  • Becoming an electronics engineer totally depends upon the person, and their effort, not the college.
  • Some of the students follow the GATE syllabus to enter into the government sectors.
  • Some get recruitment in top private companies by learning these programming languages. The college can help you out only by giving a proper study environment that can promote your overall development.

If you wish to join the private sector, then only the placement facility provided by the college is useful to you.

Highest CTC 24 LPA 22 LPA
Average CTC 12 LPA 10-11 LPA
Recruiting Companies Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Western Digital, JP Morgan, etc. TCS, Infosys, Reliance, Morgan Stanley, etc.

Last but not least we can say that the college for the instrumentation branch is the version of the electronics branch of engineering. It totally depends on you how much effort you are putting into the same and not depend on the college.

Choosing a particular college or a department actually depends on you, and how you want to shape your career ahead. Having known some people who study in both these institutions, I can say that they all have their fair share of strengths and weaknesses.

I might not be able to help you select one among them, because they are both good in their own ways. So, I will share some information about them which might help you make the choice.

  • ECE at IET Lucknow has one of the finest faculty. They also have a great student crowd.
  • HBTU also has highly experienced faculty members.
  • Placements at HBTU are also much better than IET Lucknow.
  • The enrolled candidates of the GATE exam are really great.
  • They also offer a vast alumni network unlike IET.
Categories Electrical Engineering at HBTU ECE at IET Lucknow

Having known some people studying in these colleges, I can tell you that both colleges are really good in their own ways. But, you should consider the following before you make any decision:

  • KJ Somaiya has slowly improved over the years and now is considered much better than Mumbai University (MU).
  • Vivekanand is known to keep track of attendance which is not the case with KJ Somaiya.
  • If you are considering doing Electronics, you should know that Electronics and Telecommunications has an upper edge.
  • The exams at KJ Somaiya are tougher than MU. This is because MU repeats a lot of previous years’ questions.
  • You will get a 5 day holiday in MU before a semester paper. At KJ, you will only get a day or two. Therefore, at KJ, your exams will be hectic.
  • The semesters end pretty quickly at KJ as opposed to MU.
  • MU students only get one month’s leave after a semester ends. For KJ, this leave is for 2 months.
  • You can utilize this time to look for internships and other activities that will help strengthen your resume.
  • Electronics has a few subjects like digital communication which might overlap with telecommunications.
Categories EE at KJ Somaiya ETC at Vivekananda (MU)
Course Fee 13.50 lakhs 4.52 lakhs
Highest CTC 12 LPA 9-10 LPA
Average CTC 5-8 LPA 4.5 - 5 LPA
Recruiting Companies L&T, TCS, Phillips, Schneider Electric, etc. JP Morgan, Tata Power, Mercedes, Microsoft, etc.

Both the colleges are even. It will finally depend on where your interests lie and what you would like to do. Find out if you are more interested in telecommunications or just core electronics, then choose accordingly.

Electronics will teach you more about electronic components, circuits and other basic ideas that might be required in general electronics. Telecommunications will only give you a deeper understanding of communication technologies.

To make an informed decision, it's crucial to understand that changing your choice based on the college you get into won't have much impact. You should acknowledge that Electronics and Instrumentation in BITS Pilani Goa Campus and Electrical and Electronics in NIT Surathkal are two distinct engineering streams with different colleges, and both colleges are excellent in their own right.

Your selection of the branch should entirely depend on your interest. If you are intrigued by electrical or electronic circuits or have been fascinated by electricity since childhood, EEE is the perfect fit for you. Conversely, if you have an interest in instruments or daily life gadgets that make our lives more comfortable, you should opt for E&I.

Keep in mind that EEE focuses on circuit design and development, while E&I focuses on circuit implementation in industries or the real world. EEE is a core branch that concentrates on its domain, but E&I combines all other core branches such as Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical, and even Computer Science.

Both EEE and E&I offer excellent job prospects in the market. E&I graduates can work in core fields or software industries. There is a plethora of industries related to electrical and electronics, so EEE also offers ample job opportunities. Therefore, both branches are exceptional in their way. Choose the one that piques your interest and don't sacrifice your area of interest due to college selection.

Electronics and Instrumentation and Electronics and Communication are a part of the electronics department. Both the branches are perfect in their place. Since I have some friends studying Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering at IET Lucknow, I might be able to answer your question.

  • If you look at the campus placements then it is not as good as CS, IT, etc. branches.
  • The packages offered to some students of EI are also not good. (about 3 lac average.)
  • But in the GATE exam, every year many students of EI secure good ranks, and even toppers are from IET Lucknow.
  • For example, in the 2016 gate exam, Monti with AIR-4 & Vipin Sukla sir had secured AIR-18 and he graduated from IIT Bombay.

As you may be aware, KJ Somaiya is autonomous, so the curriculum and coursework are both flexible. Furthermore, the exams will end earlier, resulting in longer vacations that can be used effectively for internships or summer courses. Because of its autonomous status, a large number of companies come to recruit.

If you score 50% overall, you are eligible to apply to all companies. Whatever your field, the same set of companies will come, and if you aren't eligible, you can apply from elsewhere.

Some of the facts are listed below to help you understand which one is better in taking admission.

  1. SGSITS has its brand name. No one even knows about the institute about IET-DAVV; generally, the students who are staying outside of Madhya Pradesh.
  2. There are not enough differences in the syllabus of these two institutes. And for this reason, you have to study yourself to perform better.
  3. If you want to pursue higher studies, then seats are limited in the good colleges for instrumentation. For this reason, the candidate number is also less. Thus, you have a preference to alter your stream for higher studies. One of my friends has told me that many people studied very hard and appeared in GATE although they have studied opted EI in B.Tech.
  4. If you are looking for placement, then DAVV is the best. This institute always has better placement statistics than the other one that is SGSITS. My friend also told me that in DAVV, most of the students from E&TC, despite EI, are preferred by the recruitment companies.

In the following, the placement statistics of these two institutes are highlighted.

If you have not so many ideas about the stream and do not aware of the institutional tag; then it is better to choose E&TC in DAVV. Besides, if you are considering these two institutes, then both are quite similar in terms of academics. However, E&TC also has many other fields in the future, so that the job opportunity might be expanded. Hence, it will be best to go for E&TC over EI.

Both are decent options but which one is good for you depends on your interests only. In fact, whoever is going to answer this question, will be driven by his own interests and thus there is no objective answer to your question. Choose the branch that appeals to you the most, be it EE or ME.

Just bear in mind that while analyzing, placements should not be the major criteria for your judgment. You should consider versatile factors like the campus life the Institute offers, alumni network, faculty pool, etc. Don’t limit yourself to good packages and seek much more.

The best way to decipher which branch is better is to interact with seniors of both institutes belonging to the respective branches. Enquire about the opportunities, exposure, and other things that cannot be known from statistics. Only after weighing the opinions of both the parties, should you reach a conclusion that satisfies you the most.
