Government General Degree College [GGDC], Jhargram was established by the Government of West Bengal in the year 2014. The decision to set up the college was taken by the West Bengal state government in the year 2012. The college is affiliated to Vidyasagar University, West Bengal and is approved by the UGC.

Currently, GGDC Jhargram functions with eleven departments and one NSS unit and offers degrees in the field of language, humanities, and social science.
