Course Description

B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering (B.Tech AE) is an undergraduate course in agricultural studies and processes. The minimum eligibility for this course requires passing class 12th/ Higher Secondary Examination in Biology, Maths and Chemistry.

B. Tech AE is a four year program and has similar course like B.E. in Agricultural Engineering. The mode of admission is through State/ National/ University Joint Entrance Examination or Pre Engineering Test.

The average tuition fee for this course ranges between 50,000 thousand INR to 1.5 Lakhs INR.

B. Tech AE graduates can find employment in sectors such as Agri-business firms, food processing, agricultural research and development firms, government sectors etc. The job profiles for graduates of this course can be research scientist, lecturer, microbiologist etc.  A fresh graduate of this course can expect an annual salary of between 1.5 Lakh INR – 2.5 Lakhs INR which would only increase with experience in the field.

What is Agricultural Engineering?

Agricultural Engineering is a branch of engineering which deals with the study of agricultural process and technological practices in food processing and efficient production of food.

How is it different from BE Agricultural Engineering?

BE in Agricultural Engineering is similar to B.Tech Agricultural Engineering. Both have the same career prospects, value and scope. Many colleges offer the Agricultural Engineering course by these two names. However, the meaning and course objectives and syllabus are similar.

Duration

Since B.Tech AE is an engineering course, the duration of the course is four years and eight semesters.

Academic Options after B.Tech

After this undergraduate course, students can apply for M.Tech Agricultural Engineering and also Ph.D in Agricultural Engineer.

Students can also opt for specialization within the fields of Agriculture in Agricultural Engineering when applying for M.Tech or Ph.D course.

Admission to M.Tech is also through an Entrance Examination. Some colleges/ institutes like Indira Gandhi Agricultural University and Indian Agricultural Research Institute also take an Entrance Examination for Ph.D program.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. XII Std. (Science) passed in 10+2 pattern from Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education or an equivalent Examination, with PCM or PCMB and English.
  2. Those who have not offered Biology shall have to complete deficiency courses as prescribed by respective University.
  3. The minimum age of the candidate should be 16 years as on the last date of submission of application form 
  4. Aggregate marks: Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination (12th std) securing not less than 50% marks for General category (Open) and 40% marks in aggregate for reserved categories (SC/ST/VJa/NTb /NTc /NTd / OBC / SBC).
