National Institute of Fashion Technology(NIFT), Kannur was established in the year 2008. Kannur shifted from its temporary campus to the permanent campus in the year 2012. It imparts several undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Fashion Technology and Design such as B.Des, B.FTech, MFM, M.F.Tech, and M.Des.

To be eligible for B.Des Programmes, the applicant must have passed 10+2 examination of any recognized board OR must have secured a passing grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination OR must hold a 3 or 4 years diploma recognized by AICTE. Selection to B.Des is done on the basis of the score in the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT), followed by a NIFT Exam for the shortlisted candidates.The eligibility criteria for B.FTech requires the candidate to have passed +2 level examination of any recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics OR hold a 3 or 4 years diploma in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE. Selection of B.FTech is done on the basis of the General Ability Test (GAT) score.To be eligible for M.Des and MFM, the candidate is required to hold an undergraduate degree in any discipline from any recognized Institute OR an Undergraduate Diploma of a minimum duration of 3 years from NIFT/ NID.

For Admission to M.Des, candidates are required to appear for the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and GAT. The shortlisted candidates of the written examination shall be further called for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/ PI) round. The selection process for MFM and M.FTech comprises GAT written test followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/ PI) round for the shortlisted candidates. For M.FTech, the candidate must have pursued B.FTech from NIFT OR B.E/ B.Tech from any recognized Institution/University.

It has been approved by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India as a Statutory Institute Governed by the NIFT Act 2006. NIFT Kannur provides hostel facilities on-campus for girl students only.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must have cleared 10+2 examination of any recognized board

He must have secured a passing grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.

He must hold a 3 or 4 years diploma recognized by AICTE

He must have cleared General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).

Note- The maximum age limit to apply for the course is 23 years as on 1st October. For candidates of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, a person with Disability category, there is a relaxation of 5 years.

Selection Criteria

Candidates need to appear for the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT). The shortlisted candidates will further have to appear for a Situation Test. In the final merit list, CAT score is assigned 50% weight age, GAT score is assigned 30% weight age while Situation Test is assigned 20% weight age.

GAT (General Ability Test) for B.Des is a written test of a total duration of 2 hours. It consists of 100 questions divided among several sections namely Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification for M.Des. (Design Space) and MFM:

Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute/University recognized by law in India
Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/NID.

Selection Criteria

M.Des.

The candidates must appear for the CAT and GAT exam. Those shortlisted in the examination shall further be called for the GD/ PI round. CAT score shall be given 40% weight age, GAT score shall be given 30% weight age while GD/ PI score shall be given 30% weight age.

GAT (General Ability Test) for M.Des is a written test of a total duration of 120 minutes and consists of 120 questions divided among several sections namely Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

MFM

The candidates need to appear for the GAT Entrance Exam. The shortlisted candidates shall be further called for the GD/ PI rounds. GAT carries a weight age of 70% and GD/ PI score carries a weight age of 30%.

How to Apply for NIFT Kannur?

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has a consolidated application process Follow these guidelines to Apply in NIFT Kannur-

Candidates need to go to the official website of NIFT and click on ‘Admission’ on the home page.
Next, create a login id and password to open the application form.
Fill the application form carefully and upload the required documents.
Submit the form and complete the payment of INR 2000(For General/ OBC) and INR 1000 (for SC/ ST/ PWD) via Credit Card/ Debit Card for online payment.
The payment process can also be done through Demand Draft. The Demand Draft must be issued in favor of “NIFT HO”, payable at New Delhi. Amount of Demand Draft is Rs 2000/- in case of GEN/OBC (Non-Creamy)/ GEN-EWS candidates and Rs.1000/- in case of SC/ST/PWD candidates.
Candidates applying through Demand Draft must send the required documents, printout of the duly completed Application form and the Demand Draft with the name, date amount and signature of the issuing authority to the following address:
