Comparably NEIGRIHMS is better. However, both of these two institutes have their advantages.

NEIGRIHMS:

  • It has a virtual dissection table. Other than one or two medical colleges, you can’t find this facility anywhere in India.
  • As their student intake is not high, the student-teacher ratio is better. You will get more personal attention from teachers.
  • The campus is clean and quite beautiful.
  • The internship salary is more.

GMC:

  • It has more faculty.
  • You will have access to PG coaching centers like Dams. As it is situated near the college.
  •  It also offers better exposure.

NEIGRIHMS has improved a lot in a very short time. The healthcare quality offered on campus can’t be compared to anywhere else.

Among RIMS Imphal and NEIGRIHMS Shillong, the latter is a better option. In the northeastern region, it is the first post-graduate medical institute. It is an autonomous institute, which is run by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The faculties at the institute are great. Many guest speakers visit the institute from Delhi. It also has a better patient flow. Although the campus of NEIGRIHMS is smaller as compared to RIMS Imphal, it offers better infrastructure.

With NEIGRIHMS, you will get a better campus, more one-on-one attention, and a comparably easy undergraduate life. On the other hand, GMCH will offer you better patients, cases, more experienced faculty, and better exposure. Guwahati will also offer better connectivity and opportunities. NEIGRIHMS is still in its initial stages. So, there are certain opportunities that you will only get at GMCH, currently.

RIMS Imphal is the oldest medical institute in northeast India. NIRF 2021 has ranked the institute 43 for medical sciences. It is also the first choice for most medical aspirants. NEIGRIHMS, Shillong is the second choice for most students since it is a Central Govt. Institute. Due to high fees, AGMC, Agartala is less preferred among students.

NEIGRIHMS Shillong is the better choice. In fact, it is considered among the top five institutes of excellence. It is a well-resourced premium central Govt. institute. While SNMC Agra is an old state medical college with limited resources.

However, you should keep in mind that, NEIGRIHMS is located in a remote corner of the country. Whereas, SNMC is located in central India. At NEIGRIHMS, you will get better quality education. But at SNMC, you will get more time to prepare for postgraduate and better working options.

If you are not from northeast, you can choose SNMC for UG and prepare for better options in PG.

If you are taking admission through NEET, it will be better if you choose other institutes. Although NEIGRIHMS offers decent academics, due to its remote location, you won’t have access to good coaching for PG. So, it’s better to choose an institute with a better location. NEIGRIHMS has good faculties. But the institute is still in it’s initial stages, so for various departments, there aren’t sufficient faculties.

I have a few friends who attended NEIGRIHMS. Their time at the institute has been quite good. It is a central Govt. medical college. There is also a hospital near the campus. The institute offers decent academics with good patient flow and cases.

For an MBBS, NEIGRIHMS can be a decent option.

At NEIGRIHMS, there are three different quotas for admission, i.e. All India Quota, North East Open Quota, State reserved quotas for Meghalaya, and Mizoram. There are 8 seats available for AIQ. You will need to clear NEET-UG with a decent All India Rank to get admission through AIQ. There are 18 seats available for NE open quota. However, to get admission through this quota, you need to have a PRC or TRC from any of these Northeastern states.
