Mumbai University IDOL (Mumbai University, Institute of Distance and Open Learning) is a department of distance education at Mumbai University. It is the 7th university in the country that began the Distance Education Program in a conventional setup. IDOL Mumbai University offers various courses at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels in the streams of Humanities, Science and Technology, Commerce & Management, Inter-disciplinary, etc.
Admission to all UG and PG courses (except MMS & MCA) is granted on the basis of marks obtained in the last qualifying examination (Merit-based). For MMS & MCA admissions, candidates are required to appear for the entrance exam conducted by the respective department.

The application form for all programs offered by MU IDOL is available on the official website of Mumbai University. The application fee varies for different programs. Candidates who wish to apply for any program are required to fulfill the complete eligibility criteria prescribed by the university. The minimum eligibility for UG courses is class 12 with not less than 50% marks while for master’s programs, applicants must have a graduate degree in a relevant discipline with at least 50% of the marks. Ph.D. admissions are considered on the basis of a valid qualifying marks and a university-based entrance test followed by the personal interview session. There is a relaxation of 5% marks for reserved category candidates SC/ ST/ OBC.
Selection is done on the basis of marks obtained in the last qualifying examination. Shortlisted candidates are called for the document verification process.
Mumbai University, Institute of Distance and Open Learning (Mumbai University IDOL) provide the scholarship to eligible candidates. Government Scholarship is available in some courses for the reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/VJ-NT/SBC). Interested and eligible applicants can submit their application through the Social Welfare website while ST students can apply through the Tribal Welfare Dept. website.

The library possesses more than 1,190 manuscripts in Arabic, Persian, and Urdu and about 7,418 in Sanskrit and allied languages. There are a total of 7,51,837 books in total, 14,904 textbooks and 11,168 reference books, 6,99,208 Book Titles, 631 total journals in which are 270 Indians whereas are 361 foreign and many more.

The only thing that they need to do is be in regular touch with the teachers or a guide through Personal Contact Programs (PCP) of Mumbai University IDOL.

No, it’s not possible to take lateral admission in a BA degree after completing a Civil Engineering diploma, in IDOL, YCMOU, or IGNOU. These two degrees are fundamentally different. You can get admission to BA after completing the course. But direct entry to second year isn’t possible.
IGNOU offers direct admission to some of its degree programs. For example, if you have done your BCA from IGNOU, you can join their 2 year MCA program through lateral admission. So, IGNOU lateral entry has fixed eligibility criteria. You won’t be eligible for direct admission to second year in IGNOU MCA if you completed your BCA from any other university.
