Tirunelveli Medical College (TVMC) was established in the year 1965 under the affiliation to the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai and administered by the Directorate of Medical Education of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Tirunelveli Medical College offers MBBS with 150 seats, MS/ MD/ DM residency programs in 16 departments for 162 seats, Paramedical Diploma and Certificate course in 9 specializations for 425 seats, and Diploma in Nursing for 140 seats.

Candidates of Tamil Nadu who have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects from a recognized board are eligible for admission to MBBS course, while the applicants of other states must have qualified NEET UG to get admission into MBBS course.
Applicants seeking admission to MD/ MS programs should have qualified Post-Graduate Medical Entrance Test (PG MET) (natives of Tamil Nadu) or NEET PG (for other states).
For admission to Paramedical Diploma and Certificate/ DM/ M.Ch/ Diploma in nursing courses, applicants must have passed 10+2 and should be a resident of Tamil Nadu.
Selection of the candidates to MBBS is done on the basis of their merit in 10+2/ NEET UG (for 15% of seats) result.
For MD/ MS course, applicants are selected on the basis of their performance in PG-MET (under State Quota)/ NEET (PG) (under All India Quota).
Selection of the applicants for Paramedical Diploma and Certificate/ DM/ M.Ch/ and Diploma in nursing courses is solely done on merit basis.

Tirunelveli Medical College MBBS Admission 2023

Tirunelveli Medical College offers full-time MBBS course to the aspirants. Applicants who have passed 10+2/ HSC or its equivalent examination from a recognized Board and have passed NEET (UG) are considered eligible for admission under its State and All India Quota.

Selection of the candidates who belong to the state of Tamil Nadu against 85% of seats (under State Quota) is done on the basis of their merit in the qualifying examination, while 15% of the seats (under All India Quota) is filled through NEET UG result.

Key points:

Candidates of other States are eligible to take admission only against 15% of seats under the All India Quota.

Tirunelveli Medical College offers regular MD course in 11 specializations, MS course in 4 specializations, and DM/ M.Ch course in Neurology.

Applicants who have qualified MBBS from a recognized university approved by Dr. MGR Medical University/ Government of Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply for MD/ MS/ DM/ M.Ch courses.

Admission to the candidates is given against 50% of State Quota seats on the basis of PG-MET conducted by the State Selection Committee and 50% seats under All India Quota is filled through NEET (PG) conducted by National Board of Examination (NBE).

Important points:

PGMET is an online test of 3 hours duration with multiple objective type questions.
Candidates are awarded 1 mark for each correct answer and there is no negative marking.
The test is generally conducted in the month of February every year.
National Eligibility Test (NEET-PG) is conducted by National Board of Examination (NBE) in the month of December.
State Selection Committee gives admission to the eligible candidates into DM/ M.Ch course.
