What is BJB College like for a B.Com?

One of my friends will be graduated from this institute in April, and thus, I can share his experience. If you are confused after completing 12th standard board exam and cannot decide where to take admission, then BJB might be the right choice. Faculty Professors are knowledgeable enough, and most of them have student-friendly attitudes. Most of the teachers here are old, so they really do not care if they leave their classes; thus, strictness is completely nil in this institute. HOD from the Commerce Department is very serious and a little strict for his students. Attendance My friend only did regular classes in the first semester, and after that, he can count how many classes he had done in both hands. Teachers are experienced enough, but they are slow, and most of them call out the notes from the books. Attendance is not a big issue for BJB students, and for that reason, the number of students gradually decreases from the first semester onwards. College atmosphere and the seniors Seniors are really friendly, but the juniors’ students should make friends with them. Campus life is enjoyable, with not strictness for attendance; hence, the student can make good memories. Besides, some other things are listed below: Cut-off marks for BJB entrance are high, so the student needs to de serious about their board exams first. Exam schedules are sometimes uncertain and normally proclaim 2-3 weeks earlier to the exam. Ragging is very rare in this institute. Getting scored is not so difficult here, and students can easily score 85-88% because BJB is quite liberal than the Utkal University. But the students have to write a lot in the exam paper, which is the only trick to score a lot. This college does not provide any good job opportunities and internships also. There are no fests or any extra facilities in this institute. If you love to lead irregular and unsystematic college life and wants to make other preparation, you can choose BJB. This institute has its identity to the entire state, and it has the best grades for studying Commerce. If you have to choose between colleges in BBSR and will get a seat in this institute, it will certainly be an excellent opportunity for you. You have to study on your own, which is actually needed to earn a good score.

B.J.B Autonomous College is one of the premier educational institutions of the State. It came into existence in 1957 through the initiative of the Government of Orissa. It is located over an area of 28.2 acres of land. It was an affiliated college of Utkal University till 1998. It has been functioning as an autonomous institution since 1999 following the conferment of autonomy by the UGC. The college was placed in Grade ‘A’ in 2004 after an assessment by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)

Apart from regular courses for the degree of Bachelor in Arts, Science and Commerce, some selected Self-Financing Courses have been introduced with the approval of the Government such as Master in Social Work, B.Sc. with Honours in Biotechnology and Computer Science as well as Diploma in Medicinal Plant Management. The College at present is running the Self-financing Professional Courses in collaboration with:

The college offers four self financing courses at the UG level and five self financing courses at the PG level. Three of the self financing UG courses are Integrated courses which are for a duration of five years.

BJB Autonomous College Admissions

The BJB college offers B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com courses under various specializations at the postgraduate level. All these courses are offered for duration of three years. Admission to all these courses is based on the merit of the candidates in the respective qualifying examinations. Applicants are not required to appear for any entrance test

Admission to all the courses the self-financing UG courses are based on the entrance test conducted by the college. The candidates need to appear for a 75 marks MCQ type entrance test for admission to these courses. The BJB college also offers five self-financing courses All these PG courses are offered for a duration of two years and candidates applying for these courses need to sit for an entrance test conducted by the college in order to evaluate the candidates for the respective course.

The Placement Cell is managed by a specially trained team of faculty members as Co-ordinators. The Cell aims at providing opportunities of employment in different sectors by conducting campus drives and off campus drives in collaboration with various organizations of repute.

In the last three years annual campus drives were organized in association with organizations like IBM Daksh, Genpact, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, HSBC,SBI (for Probationary Officers).

Games and Sports: The Institution has earned an equally excellent name in the field of sports. It bagged the University Championship in BasketBall and Cricket in 2007-08. Many students represented the University in the East Zone Inter University Cricket and BasketBall Tournaments. It has also a sprawling playground of 22,317 sq.mts., catering to both indoor and outdoor games and sports requirements of the students.

Hostel: There are four hostels for general category (boys and girls) as well as for SC/ST students which provide accommodations to the students Junior Hostel, Ladies Hostel, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Hostel, and General Hostel.

Computer Center: Though the College does not have a separate Computer Centre of its own, the facilities available through the joint collaboration of the College and the Computer Point are used by the Students and the Staff as when required. The Centre has a total number of 8 P.Cs and 1 Printer.

There is a post office on the campus, besides a canteen. The college has provision for NCC(Men/Women, Army wing/Air wing) and NSS( Boys & Girls). The Womens’ Cell of the college has been in operation since 2000-2001. It aims at protecting the dignity and rights of the women students. In accordance with the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, an Anti-Ragging Cell has been formed in the college.
