Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) is an educational institution was established in the year of 1786. The institute is primarily located in Bangalore (Bengaluru) in the state of Karnataka, with other observatories in Kavalur, Kodaikanal and other locations.The primary focus of the institute is research and specialization in various forms of physics or astrophysics.
Indian Institute of Astrophysics offers integrated M.Tech, with the possibility of continuing on for a Ph.D., as well as research-oriented post-doctoral fellowships. For the M.Tech. + Ph.D. course offered by IIA jointly with Calcutta University and Ph.D program offered jointly with Pondicherry University, there is an entrance examination held in the month of December, followed by an interview in the month of January. In case of Post-doctoral candidates, there are four rounds of admission conducted every year, held every three months. The interview round for Post-doctoral fellowship
- Minimum required eligibility for Ph.D program is M.Sc. (Physics) / Integrated M.Sc. (Physics) / B.E. / B.Tech. / M.E. / M.Tech degree with minimum 60% marks from Class 10 onwards.
- Candidate must also possess an All India rank in the range of 1-250 in GATE or JEST examination or qualification in UGC-CSIR-NET (JRF) exam or currently valid KVPY / INSPIRE fellowship.
- Admission to the programs is based on the IIA Screening Test (IIAST) which will be conducted at multiple centres across the coutry.
