NIFFT Ranchi offers the two-year/ four semester M.Tech degree program to GATE qualified candidates through the centralized admission process of CCMT. The engineering disciplines in which the students can pursue M.Tech at NIFFT Ranchi are Environmental Engineering, Foundry Forge Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering.

• M.Tech applicants at NIFFT Ranchi should hold an undergraduate Engineering degree in a relevant discipline.
• The applicants should have scored a minimum of 60% or CGPA 6.5 on a scale of 10 (55% or CGPA 6.0 for SC/ ST candidates) in their qualifying examination.
• Admission is on the basis of merit in qualifying exam, GATE score/ written test, and interview performance.
• The M. Tech admission process at NIFFT Ranchi is supervised by the Post Graduate Coordination Committee.
• The structure of the M. Tech program at NIFFT Ranchi consists of Core Courses, Elective Courses, and Project Work.
• The program follows a credit-based evaluation system. Students are required to earn 80 credits to complete the degree requirements.
• Reservation of seats is as per the Central Government directives.
• GATE qualified M. Tech students are entitled to a monthly scholarship of INR 12400.

• In general, M. Tech applicants at NIFFT Ranchi should have qualified a relevant Engineering degree with a minimum score of 60% OR a CGPA of 6.5 on a scale of 10.0. SC/ ST category of applicants are allowed a relaxed minimum score of 55% or CGPA 6.0 in the qualifying exam.
• Applicants are required to present a valid GATE score for admission.
• Please note that sponsored candidates who are in employment with reputed organizations in the business of design and/or manufacturing of engineering products, and reputed established engineering institutions and polytechnics, are not required to hold a valid GATE score, provided they have at least 2 years of relevant work experience.

Sponsored candidates applying for M. Tech at NIFFT Ranchi should fulfill the following eligibility conditions:

• Apart from meeting the basic eligibility requirements, such candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience.
• It is not mandatory for such candidates to qualify GATE or appear in the Institute’s written test.
• The sponsoring organization must be responsible to retain the candidate in employment, yet relieve him/her from official duties for the entire duration of the program with full pay and allowances.

NIFFT Ranchi M. Tech Program: Admission Criteria

Selection Criteria

The Postgraduate Coordination Committee (PGCC) at NIFFT Ranchi oversees the entire selection and admission process for the M. Tech program. The selection for M. Tech Admission is made considering academic merit in qualifying exam, GATE score, or performance in Written Test, and Interview.

• The Course Coordinator under the PGCC, shortlisted applicants from the pool of applications and invited them for a round of written test or interview with the Admissions Committee.
• HODs of respective disciplines head the Admissions Committee that interviews the shortlisted candidates.
• The Course Coordinator considers the recommendations of the Admissions Committee and subsequently decides in consultation with the PGCC regarding the final shortlist of candidates to be offered admission.
• Candidates offered admission NIFFT Ranchi are required to accept the offer by paying the prescribed admission fee within the specified date.

GATE qualified candidates need to register and apply through the CCMT website https://ccmt.nic.in/WebInfo/Page/Page?PageId=1&LangId=P. 

Candidates are counselled and allotted seats as per their institution and course preferences.

Self-sponsored and candidates sponsored by organizations need to apply directly to NIFFT Ranchi. Such candidates are required to qualify the Institution’s written test and appear in the interview round too.

• Register at the CCMT/ NIFFT Ranchi website with requisite details to access the online application form.
• Complete the Application Form with all correct details.
• Attach scanned copies of documents as per instructions specified in the form.

• Complete Application Fee payment online using Debit/ Credit Card or Net Banking facilities.
• Review carefully before submitting the form.

The following documents have to be submitted in original along with two sets of self-attested photocopies for verification at the time of admission:

• Provisional Seat Allotment Letter received from CCMT in original.
• Documentation Verification Certificate issued by reporting center.
• GATE scorecard.
• Birth certificate for proof of DOB.
• All Academic Mark Sheet up to the qualifying examination.
• Degree Certificate/Provisional Certificate.
• College/Institute Leaving certificate.
• Course Completion Certificate issued by Head of the University/ Institution (in case qualifying examination result is awaited).
• Migration and Character Certificate from the Institution last attended (originals will be retained).
• Medical fitness certificate and blood group issued by Government Medical Officers.
• Three recent passport-size color photographs.
• Anti-Ragging Affidavits from both students and parents.
• Disability/ Category Certificate issued by the competent (if applicable).

NIFFT Ranchi M. Tech Program: Course Details

• The M. Tech program at NIFFT Ranchi is structured to include Core Courses, Elective Courses, and Project Work.
• Students can pick their electives from the list of approved courses for a particular semester.
• Students may be allowed to opt for electives from other disciplines, provided such courses are relevant to their branch of study.
• Seminars and Practical/ Industrial training form an integral part of the program.
• Evaluation is done on the basis of credits earned. During the duration of the program, an M. Tech student will have to complete 80 credits in total.
• Continuous assessment of students on the basis of tests, assignments, class interaction, and attendance forms the internal component of the evaluation. Semester-end written exams for theoretical papers and practical laboratory, thesis, viva-voce, seminars, etc. completes the evaluation process.
