Placement Experience:

The placements are average. The average package goes here 5 to 6 lakhs per annum. Various companies like Tata Steel, Tata Power, LnT, Adani, AN/MS, and LG visit here. The placement rate is good here. My plan is to pursue an MBA

Internships Opportunities:

As I'm in the first year and don't know about much I can tell you the roles majorly offered are Graduate software trainee if you get placed in the IT sector. The core placements are very less in IGIT Sarang

The campus life of IGIT Sarang is not that great. So, it is better to keep the standards low. The campus is around 379 acres. The residential part of the campus is covered by 179 acres, situated nearby the Brahmani river. The additional 200 acres are left unused for future expansion projects. The experience of students in the initial years is discussed below.

  • In the initial years, the students find the campus dull and complain about it. After a year, with the increasing familiarity, they start loving it. There are strict rules and time deadlines for girls. After 7 pm, girls are not allowed to roam around. They should be within the hostel.
  • Students spend most of the time at chowk, food courts, canteen or cafeteria. These are the hot-spots to hang out with friends and relax.
  • Students get bored of campus within a couple of months. The reason is that the campus is isolated from the outside world. Everyone from IGIT is living within a radius of 5 km.
  • The campus life revolves around friends. They are the best companions and even politics.
  • Computer science is the best branch here. It interestingly organizes its branch events

Life in IGIT Sarang is not easy, yet it is fun.

Yes, IGIT Sarag has a uniform system. Boys need to wear a pair of Gray trousers and a Sky-blue full-length shirt. The girls’ uniform is Salwar Kameez. The Kameez has the same pattern as the shirt and the shalwar is Gray-colored. IGIT is strict regarding the dress code and students need to adhere to the uniform system.

You probably won’t find a detailed account of the life of a girls hostel at IGIT Sarang anywhere. But, I can definitely give you a brief insight of the same, since I have few friends at the institute.

  • Freshers are given according to Rohini Bhawan. Rooms at Rohini are 6 sharing. Staying with 6 other people is not easy, so you need to adjust.
  • There are no attached bathrooms. There are 4 bathrooms in each corner of the 2-storey hostel. Each bathroom has 3 basins, 3 washrooms, and 3 stalls for baths. Bathrooms are cleaned regularly.
  • Power facilities are good. But there are long power cuts, especially during summer.
  • Water facilities are not good here. Bring disinfectants like Dettol or Savlon with you if you don’t want to get any skin diseases.

Hope this gave you an idea about the life at girl hostel at IGIT Sarang

Experiencing a stay at different hostels is necessary to compare the hostel food of IGIT Sarang. In terms of food, IGIT Sarang serves the best taste on the platter.

The food is available at affordable rental rates and serves better quality than any other college hostel. You will love the food served here, once you get used to it.

If you are a girl, you have to adjust till 3rd year. For the first 2 years, you will be staying in Rohini Bhawan and the food there is not as good as Prithvi Bhawan. However, you can order in from Jagannath, Brundaban, cafeteria, KFC.

If you are a boy there are various options in or out of campus. You only need to explore.

The stream in which you wish to make your career is more relevant than knowing about the college that you choose, as the chief problem is the stream that you choose.

As per the listed choices, it would be better to choose Computer Science from Silicon BBS over Chemical at IGIT. The reason is that the faculty of IGIT Chemical engineering is not very impressive. Most of the teachers there are recent graduates recruited due to a lack of qualified faculties.

As the campus of IGIT is isolated from the town, very few companies visit there for the campus whereas, Silicon has a location advantage. It is more like a school as it has strict attendance rules. However, their placement record definitely makes up for it.

One of my friends graduated from IGIT this year. Here are a few things that I got to know about the Mechanical branch at IGIT.

Placements:

According to the statistics the placement sector is down in almost all colleges of Odisha. Seeing on the placement statistics of past years hardly a core company came for placement in IGIT.

  • Companies like Vedanta, Jindal, and Bhushan did come for the core sector but the probability of students getting selected is not up to the mark.
  • Most mechanical engineers join TCS or Tech Mahindra in IT. Very few of the students get placed in core companies like Vedanta, Jindal, or Bhushan.

This same situation can be seen in colleges like VSSUT and CET too. But they arrange some off-campus for mechanical students. Going in other campus placement is good in CET followed by VSSUT than IGIT. But that doesn’t make a big difference. Placement is almost the same in these colleges for core companies.

About Mechanical Branch:

The mechanical branch is one of the most strict branches of the institute.

  • It has well-equipped labs or workshops and this is something mechanical engineers brag about.
  • IGIT has more reputed and respected professors in mechanical engineering as compared to other colleges.

The quality of education is average.

It will be better if you opt for CET followed by VSSUT and then IGIT. CET/VSSUT does call mass recruiters as compared to IGIT. IT jobs play the role of saviors since the number of core jobs is quite less. and are not likely to get a boost in near future.

A friend of mine completed BTech in Electronics and Telecom from IGIT. Here are some of the things that he shared about the institute.

  • Initially, you will feel the pressure from lots of assignments as assigned but then you will get used to it.
  • The curriculum followed by the Department takes into account the latest subjects as per the current scenario.
  • During lab sessions, you will have the guidance of teachers. According to my friend, Sunita ma’am was quite helpful. Some Faculties have exceptional knowledge in the field of Networking and Communication. My friend's guide was also of great help during his project in the final year.
  • Apart from all this, there is decent placement as well not in terms of quality but quantity. Students get placed in companies such as TCS, Tech Mahindra, and Concept Infoway, etc.

From what I heard, there is not too much pressure from Teachers. You are free to do anything. So, make the most of your time at the institute.

For CSE, Silicon Institute of Technology is the best option among these. It offers good academics in the software domain. It has a good placement record, especially for branches like CSE, and ECE. TCS, Wipro, Infosys, and Byju’s are some of the major recruiters that take part in Silicon Institute of Technology placements. As per the placement highlights, the average CTC for the CSE branch is around INR 3.4 LPA.

VSSUT Burla is a much better option than IGIT Sarang. VSSUT, Burla - Being the Oldest engineering institute in the state, has some of the best faculty, a huge library, and a wide-spread Alumni net.

Discussed below are a few important points about VSSUT Burla.

  • For any branch, VSSUT will be a better option, since it has better placement records, campus infrastructure, clubs, and the cutoff rank is also higher.
  • Most importantly it's autonomous so it has its own examinations and curriculum.
  • If you have any problem regarding something you can directly get in contact with the Vice-Chancellor at VSSUT Burla.

The table below gives a brief overview of the institutes.

Particulars

VSSUT Burla

IGIT Sarang

Average CTC

3.6 LPA

5 LPA

Tuition Fee

82,080/Year

33,400/Year

One of my cousins was in the same situation, whether to choose VSSUT or IGIT, and he chose VSSUT. If you look up the statistics you will clearly see VSSUT is much better than IGIT.

Both EE at IGIT and IT at VSSUT have the same admission process through JEE mains followed by counseling and interview. IGIT has more seats for EE than for IT in VSSUT so maybe getting admissions in IGIT will be easy in comparison to VSSUT. The placement rate is also good for both universities.

Tabulated below shows the difference between both institutions:

Particulars

IGIT Sarang

VSSUT, Burla

Total course fee

2.89 lakhs

1.12 lakhs

Total seats available

Aricent, Ashok Leyland, Bosch Ltd, Capgemini, CSC, Cummins, HP, Jindal Steel, Maruti Suzuki,

Average salary

3.6 lakhs

Admission process

  • The admission process is the same for both courses. The application process is wholly online.
  • Admissions are based on the marks of JEE Main or OJEE valid rank followed by interviews and counseling.
  • With this students are also required to have at least 45% in 10+2 with required subjects(Physics and mathematics should be primary subjects).

Placements

IGIT Sarang

  • Companies like Ananda, Bhushan Steel, Infosys, Kanbay international, Larsen and Toubro, SATYAM COMPUTERS, TATA Consultancy Services, Visa Steel, etc visit the campus every year in search of good placements.
  • The average salary offered to students is 4 lakhs and the highest salary package is up to 10 lakhs.

VSSUT Burla

  • Companies like Aricent, Ashok Leyland, Bosch Ltd, Cap Gemini, CSC, Cummins, HP, Jindal Steel, Maruti Suzuki, and so on visit campus every year.
  • The average salary offered to students for this course is 3.6 lakhs and the highest package is up to 10 lakhs.

Infrastructure

IGIT Sarang

  • The infrastructure of the college is really good.
  • Classrooms are nice, the library is open to all, medical facilities and equipped labs are also available in college.
  • Teachers are well qualified in their particular fields.

VSSUT Burla

  • The infrastructure and facilities of this university are really good.
  • Air-conditioned classrooms, upgraded labs, medical facilities, sports facilities, gym, etc all available on campus.

Both the universities are good choices for the above courses. Both courses have the same admission process among universities. The placement rate is quite better for IGIT Sarang than VSSUT Burla but if we talk about which one is affordable and has good quality teaching then VSSUT should be the choice.
