Founded by the great scientist J. C. Bose in 1917, Bose Institute Kolkata is a highly reputed basic science research institute of India. The main campus is located in Kolkata and other important campuses are located in Madhyamgram, Shyamnagar, and Darjeeling.

Shyamnagar Campus got formed for atmospheric and microwave research.
Darjeeling Campus got formed for Space Science and Astrophysics research
Madhyamgram Campus got formed for research implementation into translational reality.
The Bose Institute offers Ph.D., integrated Ph.D., summer training programme along with few postdoctoral/ RA programmes.
Admissions to these courses are based on the various national level exams (NET, DBT, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE) followed by a personal interview.

Bose Institute offers a Ph.D. programme in interdisciplinary, chemical, life, and physical sciences. The institute conducts admissions to the Ph.D. programme twice a year, for sessions beginning in January and July.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should have qualified CSIR/ UGC-JRF/ ICMR-JRF/ DBT-JRF/ DST-INSPIRE/ DBT-BINC or equivalent.
Candidates must be holding a Master’s degree in Engineering/ Science/ Technology in any branch of Science or Engineering.
The age limit for admission is 28 years and there will be relaxation in case of SC/ST/OBC/PwD/EWS/Women candidates.

Selection Criteria

Eligible candidates are called for a personal interview and final selection is made based on the performance in the interview.

Bose Institute in collaboration with the Calcutta University offers the integrated Ph.D. (M.Sc. + Ph.D.) programme in Physical Sciences and Life Sciences. Admission to the integrated Ph.D. programme is done based on the personal interview conducted by the Institute.

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree with overall 60 % marks (55% for SC/ST/OBC/women).
Candidates must have secured a minimum of 65% aggregate marks in both 10 and 10+2 levels with at least 70% marks in science subjects.
Candidates must have qualified for the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) examination.

The final candidates get selected based on their interview performance.

Interviews will be conducted in English.

Bose Institute Kolkata Summer Training Program 2023

Bose Institute offers a summer training programme in Physical and Chemical Sciences along with Life Sciences for the candidates pursuing a Master’s Degree in the relevant field of study. The research training programme is conducted by the faculty members of the Bose institute from May to July of each year. Interested candidates can contact Bose institute’s faculty members.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates are required to have minimum of 75% aggregate marks in both 10 and 10+2 levels.
And, 60% in aggregate in Bachelor level.

Bose Institute Kolkata Admission Procedure 2022

Candidates seeking admission to Bose institute must apply online on the official website.
For online application, candidates must have a recommendation/forwarding letter from the Head of Department/Institution.
Candidates need to attach the scanned copy of the recommendation letter, during filling the application form.
