Established in 2005, the Shimoga Institute Of Medical Sciences (SIMS) is a private autonomous university. The institute is spread over an area of 25 acres and is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore. It has also received approval from the Medical Council of India. The institute offers various undergraduate and postgraduate courses across different specializations. The college offers the MBBS program at the undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, SIMS offers MD and MS programs.
